Great working environment with a lot of cool things to work on
Cons

Pros
Corning is a large company with facilities all over the world. As such, there are plentiful opportunities to find positions where an individual can add value. The culture is polite and inclusion and diversity are supported. Management promotes a strong value-based environment and encourages recognition for hard work and achievements. Annual company goals are shared, with specific targets where employees can align their efforts to provide support.
Cons
As with any large company, expectations for employees are high. Administrative tasks are significant (beyond project focused work), where smaller companies would not be able to justify the non-value added expense of such tasks.

World Leader in Glass Research with Friendly, Supportive Environment
Dec 9, 2014 - Senior Research Associate in Painted Post, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Corning is the world leader in specialty glass and ceramics. If you love glass, there is no better place to work. Corning is one of the few companies that supports a healthy balance of applied and fundamental/exploratory research. Researchers are encouraged to pursue their own interests and offered many opportunities for growth and training. The work environment is very friendly and highly cooperative. Corning has a polite small-town culture that fosters a sense of family. There is a feeling that 'we're all in this together.' It is obvious that most people choose to work for Corning because they are passionate about what they do and about what Corning seeks to accomplish as a company. That is part of what makes the research culture here so invigorating. Corning has some of the top scientists in the world working on life-changing innovations. Combined with a friendly, support environment and many opportunities for growth, what's not to love?
Cons
No major cons to speak of. I've spent nearly half my life working at Corning's Sullivan Park research facility, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Disappointed with the senior management at Corning Cable Systems
Jan 25, 2009 - Product Development Engineer in Keller, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Corning has a very long history. In order to achieve this, company cares a lot of employee loyalty to the company. This provided relative stable and simple work environment at Corning. Most CCS employees have a very long service history. The management in most cases provided career development opportunities for most employees. During the good time, the growth within the company is pretty good. The salary and benefit of Corning is quite competitive within the industry. Most employees have annual pay increase based on their performance. Layoff is quite limited during the booming years. Job security is expected for a long time.
Cons
This company has a special favor towards former military personnel. This definitely give these people advantage within the company to grow. This also limited development opportunities for other people. Due to the long service time of each employees, the knowledge base will not grow very fast because you will do the same job for a very long time. In normal case, 5 years without any change in job functions is very normal. The product line of the company is very limited. When these limited products are not growing, so is your career. In the recent years, the limited customers have hurt the growth of the business.

Liberal policies Safe work environment both physically and socially. Clean and consistent
Cons
Big public company that can have business swings causing big layoffs at times. It’s becoming more metrics driven causing a lose of sight of customer needs at times

Intern Experience at Production Plant
Feb 28, 2016 - Intern in Corning, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Very professional environment Opportunity to receive Six Sigma training Assigned project(s) can be very open-ended
Cons
*Please note that this is simply a rating of my personal experience, not the company as a whole: My mentor was a relatively new employee still trying to find his niche, and was too busy completing his own work to assist or direct me very often. I felt more like a nuisance than a protegee to him. My boss was very amiable and I felt like he genuinely wanted to help me, but he was usually too swamped in meetings to meet and discuss my projects. The work environment felt very stiff and formal. I felt very self-conscious about being myself around the more senior staff, which made work less enjoyable.
