    Pros

The people and mission make this a great place to work. Being able to help your fellow Americans is extremely rewarding.

    Cons

Because it is a small agency advancement can be limited for certain career types.

I have been working at Corporation for National and Community Service (More than a year)

    Pros

    The people are wonderful.
The work they do is commendable. They truly change people's lives.
The work culture is very friendly and cordial.

    Cons

Cannot think of any. I like everything they currently do. Keep doing what you are doing. The only thing is the area that the agency is located in. There is really nothing around to eat or do. But I guess thats really no one's fault.

I worked at Corporation for National and Community Service full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are a lot of great people and there is an overall sense of achieveing a greater mission.

    Cons

Too many disgruntled members of management want to make it difficult for younger professionals to work there. Were they burned earlier in their careers? Probably. There is an overall lack of concern for employees' personal situations in majority of the departments in the agency.

    Advice to Management

Lose the high and mighty ones who don't care about the younger generations, and who aren't including the voice of volunteers in their work.

I worked at Corporation for National and Community Service full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Responsibility for national volunteer community service grant programs. Flexible personnel system, compared to regular civil service. Merit generally rewarded.

    Cons

Politics, both partisan and organizational, affects decisions, as does a degree of political correctness, such as ensuring representation of minorities.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Corporation for National and Community Service full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There are still a few good people left that have not been driven out by the rampant cronyism. The agency has a good mission and the funds to pursue that mission.

    Cons

This agency is infested with termites throughout top management. Cronyism is the worst of any government agency ever and they practice it with impunity. Anyone with any integrity will ultimately leave, which makes the overall cronyism worse. This is an agency in ethical collapse.

    Advice to Management

If you are an honest person, find another place to work. If you come in with the next administration, you need to clean house. If the person is a senior manager, they are corrupt. Because that's the ONLY way anyone can succeed at this agency. Harsh, but sadly true.

    Pros

Live work and play with great people. You have an opportunity to advance yourself further in life and create a future all while helping people

    Cons

FEMA flexible is a common term, often running around without direction

    Advice to Management

    More organization

I worked at Corporation for National and Community Service full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Many staff are nice and dedicated to the work. If the management actually functioned and had real leadership skills, not just a reward our friends with senior management positions regardless of merit, education or intelligence, then this could be a good place to work.

    Cons

This place is full of terrible leaders in the senior management, nepotism, promotion as a reward for patronage, and other work place ills like bullying, sexual favors between managers and subordinates, and there is not a single upper manager not tainted by these behaviors. The rest of the workforce is too scared to speak up, for fear they'll be next on the chopping block. What a waste of a good idea from President's Bush and Clinton.

    Advice to Management

Find a CEO and COO interested in fixing the management culture. Start in the HR office. Find an HR leader with an ethical and moral compass, and then listen to them. Dump the whole C suite leadership. It will take years to root out the impact of the last 6 years of cabals and nepotism.

    Pros

Federal employment. Great mission. Good management.

    Cons

Can be bureaucratic. Employees frequently move on after a few years. Congress has CNCS under a microscope.

I worked at Corporation for National and Community Service full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I had the pleasure of serving a term of AmeriCorps that helped me grow as a person and understand some of the realities that exist as a result of poverty.

    Cons

I, in all honesty, cannot think of a negative with regard to working through the Corporation for National and Community Service.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work!
