I have been working at Corrections Corporation of America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Good high level management and good company support network. Very well planned and thought out as a company.

    Cons

Professionalism was somewhat lacking at times. There a lot of favoritism, especially on the racial front. Upper management was not engaged with the line staff at all. Lot of uncommon sense.

    Advice to Management

Be more proactive with the line staff and do not allow personal recommendations of the supervisory staff to over shadow personal one on one appraisals of line staff, supervisor use the buddy system but their buddy might not be the best choice. (This commentary is not over something that happened to me but to other line staff. Wanting to advance and being worthy of it but supervisors played favorites and the best... person did not get the gig. )

I worked at Corrections Corporation of America

    Pros

Excellent salary as it was on a US Marshal's contract. I'd have taken the job for half what they offered. Excellent benefits, except for 401K which did not start until a year after initial hire. Some extremely caring and compentent people, including some supervisors and the Warden. EXCELLENT CCA designed and built facility.

    Cons

Training was a joke as well as physical standards (can you breath?) Approximately 40% of employees were transferred from other CCA facilities and some came with attitudes about local hires. This was true regardless of their position.

    Advice to Management

Lives depend upon teamwork. Do not tolerate employee disrespect towards prisoners or each other. Improve the training program by, at least, not having the instructors review test questions immediately before the test!
