I have been working at Corrections Corporation of America full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Money is good for those willing to put in the hours, and a good place to get your feet wet in law enforcement. There are opportunities for advancement as well due to the fact people are quitting faster than new officers are coming in.

    Cons

Dishonest and deceitful company. Was told 3 days one week, 4 the next with 12 hour shifts. In fact the average shift is closer to 15 hours with some well above that, no way to let your family know your having to stay late (because no one showed up to relieve you), and you get no lunch breaks, (your lucky in most cases to get a single bathroom break in the entire 15 hours. Mandatory overtimes are a constant reminder of how poorly staffed the facility is. If you have a family... DO NOT APPLY! What you are told during interviews and your training class is not an accurate assessment of the job, seek out those who work the system every day to learn the truth.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be a serious focus on hiring the right people to staff the facility. For this area, it is far less dangerous and more advantageous for some to pick up a job at VW, Amazon or even the county for far more money, better benefits and less danger. I would recommend this job only to someone who has exhausted every other option for work first.

    Pros

Loved the people & enjoyed learning all the skills that went along with my job

    Advice to Management

Cross Training and Job Shadowing would be a nice addition

I worked at Corrections Corporation of America

    Pros

One good reason to work at CCA is the benefit package. Another reason is room for advancement.

    Cons

One con is the interaction with the inmates and not feeling secure while at work.

I have been working at Corrections Corporation of America

    Pros

The corrections job at CCA differs from facility to facility. At Davis Correctional Facility you are treated as family by staff and the pay is not to bad.

    Cons

Bad things, long days. 12 hour days can be hard especially when dealing with inmates. Also you have to deal with a bunch of adults who whole goal is to get under your skin

    Advice to Management

There isn't much for the staff over the top. It is pretty easy going For the most part. The staff tries to do what they can go help you

I worked at Corrections Corporation of America for more than 5 years

    Pros

The best reason to work here would be getting to know and meeting a diverse group of people. The health insurance was okay for the area.

    Cons

It's very stressful as the company puts a lot of pressure on the staff. The company meet a lot about certain topics but there is no follow up after the meeting.

    Advice to Management

Walk the walk don't just talk the talk. Meetings are only the beginning. Be more sincere and truthful about the messages you send. From what I experienced the messages where contradictory. Care more about the employees and success on audits and the bottom line will come.
