I worked at Corrections Corporation of America for more than 8 years

    Pros

It's a cultural diversity environment. You must give respect to get respect. Great opportunities to move up the ladder. Worked there several years and left for personal reasons. I really miss many of my co-workers and wish the company much success.

    Cons

Mandatory overtime, lazy officers (some supervisors too).

    Pros

stable job very little chance of being laid off, or fired. Very low standards for hiring on to become an employee

I worked at Corrections Corporation of America for less than a year

    Pros

Decent pay, but no amount of money is worth your life. Insurance benefits (if you make it that long) Free meal if you're willing to eat what the inmates cook for you.

    Cons

Very understaffed, Unsafe working environment, no form of protection, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain or other Correctional officers not available when in need of backup or help. Radios (lifeline) to communicate with other staff or for help didn't always work or weren't correctly charged. One the job training did not prepare me for what to do in the event of a lock down. Superiors treat CO's like inmates.

I have been working at Corrections Corporation of America for more than a year

    Pros

The pay is steady with plenty of overtime available. The company will pay for you to be a certified correctional officer.

    Cons

Revised days.... These are scheduled days that you must work. You can only be "revised to work" on your off days. A normal work schedule will go as follows. 2 days on, 2 days, 3 days on. That would be your "long week" ie. you work most of the week. Your short week would 2days off 2 days on and then 3 days off. They run back to back so one week you work alot one week you work a little. Where they screw you is revising you with 2 or more off days. Yes they will REQUIRE you work 6 with 1 day off and then another 4. I have been here for 3 years and for 2 of them they have had a sickening turnover rate because of the amount of hours they force people to work. If you love overtime then signup.

    Cons

Sexual harassment means nothing here, you just suck it up and keep working.some Female officers are great for gossiping instead of taking there work seriously. This place is like a high school nightmare!!! Graveyard is treated like a joke!! If you have no morals or dignity youll fit right in.

I worked at Corrections Corporation of America full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The pros to this job, is that its a job.

    Cons

If you love overtime then this is the perfect job for you. youll work 12 to 16 hour shifts and the money is crappy and the admin people do not have the brains god gave them. If you want to work and put up with inmates all day long go right ahead. but getting the job is so easy. you can just walk off the street and they will hire you with no problem as long as you do not have a felony. when i was working there, a corrections officer that was over the k9 left his dog in his car for 4 1/2 hours and died. what cca did hired him the best state attorney to have the charges drop from a felony to a misdemeanor and gave him time off with pay and paid for his bond and lawyer fees and keep the officer hire on after what he did to the K9 officer. They also had an officer that was charged with child rape of a seven year old and tired to say it wasnt one of there officers. cca is not a place to work at or a career like they try to say it is. if your seriously thinking to work for this company look into go to a state prison or security or something else that isnt part of cca.
