I have been working at Cost Plus full-time

    Pros

I'm a Pricing & Signage Coordinator at the Lafayette location and I love it! My coworkers are very team orientated from the GM down to the freight crew. You get a great employee discount. The store is very easy to navigate and learn where different departments are very quickly. They're very understanding about prior engagementments when you first start and as long as you give a minimum of 2 weeks notice for Dr's appointments etc, Management doesn't mind. I also received immediate training on how World Market does their Pricing, Signage & Schematics. I've also been a customer of World Market & have always received great Customer Service. As an employee we keep the store very clean and well stocked!!

    Cons

There aren't many cons about the job. The one thing I can say though, is about the network for the computers probably needs an overhall.
Which Management is currently working to correct.

    Advice to Management

Keep being a great Management team!!

I have been working at Cost Plus (Less than a year)

    Pros

great employee discount, opportunity for growth

    Cons

Everyone is far too overworked for very little money. Any room for growth comes at a price - mostly your mental and physical health. Little to no training at all levels. Much more concerned about numbers than they are their employees.

    Advice to Management

Look after your employees (at all levels) and the numbers will follow. No one wants to work harder when they don't feel supported.

I worked at Cost Plus part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They pay you at least minimum wage, it is a very physically active job, if you like lifting furniture this is the job for you.

    Cons

Regional management micromanages the store management, who in turn micro manage the department heads, who in turn either eat it or pass it on to their teams. Morale is very low especially on the stock crews who keep the store up and running.

    Advice to Management

To corporate management: look at Costco's business model and attempt to do that in your market segment.

World Market has a very relaxed environment while still being productive, the items we sell are interesting and quirky and, for the most part, of good quality.

    Cons

    I can't think of any!

I worked at Cost Plus (Less than a year)

    Pros

There's a very good employee discount in place, and the merchandise is interesting. My coworkers were also amazing people!

    Cons

The company does not take measures to ensure employee safety, only profits matter. The warehouse was a deathtrap - it was impossible to get to many items safely, but we "had to get them" for a customer, even if it meant climbing and throwing the item down. The shipments we received were far too large for the warehouse, but management in Oakland didn't ever slow the flow of merchandise into our store. If OSHA were to walk into the store, there'd be a lawsuit, without a doubt in my mind, at least when I worked there a few years ago.

    Advice to Management

Take employee safety seriously before someone gets seriously hurt.
