I worked at Costa part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fun job, excepetional at developing team, communication, and leadership skills.

    Cons

Trusted baristas are made 'supervisors', meaning they have a key, meaning independent open and close shifts. They are asked to train staff, but are not appropriately remunerated.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your supervisors by allowing them to become Barista Maestros, or paying them over £6.

I worked at Costa full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Meeting a lot of new people, free coffee, rather flexible shifts, whitbread scheme - discounts at other costas, premier inn

    Cons

A lot of circumstances depend on what type of store manager you have...Not enough staff recruited on Christmas - you may end up working on your days off doing 10 hours shifts. Difficult to progress further - not enough time is dedicated for the staff. A lot is about saving money and cutting hours down so people have to work much harder which leaves them burning down.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in yor staff well-being, training and engagement, otherwise, they will leave soon. Be careful what type of people you promote to the store managers, it has a huge impact on the store/staff performance.
