I worked at Coty (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It use to be a great place to work for until the new management was brought in about 2years ago. Coty had a company culture that attracted others. It was entrepreneurial and the senior management listened to those below them. It was a great place to work for but that has since changed.

    Cons

They are hiring a lot of people from L'Oreal who are instilling L'Oreal mentality which was not good for moral. A lot of great people have left or being laid off because they are not adopting the new culture. It is becoming what we always criticized about tyrannical companies like L'Oreal.

    Advice to Management

Sadly you have lost or let go a great many of those who made Coty a great company.

I have been working at Coty full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Compensation, as a leader. The opportunity to make very good money is there, but be certain that it won't come easily and you will work very hard for it.

    Cons

Change management systems leave a great deal to be desired. Rapid decision making with bits and pieces of information often lead to significant and costly mistakes.

    Advice to Management

You must choose. Nimble and first to market or operational excellent through process and system. Many have tried and failed to do both in a BIC way. Don't make that mistake during periods of rapid growth.

I worked at Coty (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The employees are amazing from Mid-level management and down. One of the better benefits packages in the area. Company store is a huge plus.

    Cons

Severely silo'd culture. Closed-minded and arrogant leadership. Poor morale. Senior leadership team more concerned with lying to employees and global leadership and getting their bonuses. HR is a mess and it starts with their leadership. Intimidation seems to be primary skill-set.

    Advice to Management

Be mindful of the leaders you hire. Take note that what directors say in the boardroom with their boss/Plant GM/Visiting SVP's in the room is very different than what they say on the floor or behind closed doors. Intimidation of employees is rampant. Be very, very careful with HR and its Leadership, as many of the words said are either directly against corporate policy or against laws that direct employee rights in the US. Ensure that leaders brought to US from Europe understand our laws clearly, as many have broken rules and have exposed the company to significant risk (ageism, sexism, for example). Invest in your employees to see them succeed. Provide training and morale boosts quickly, as this is an urgent need. Treat all employees fairly and equally, not differently because they work for different leaders. There is a reason why so many good and long-term employees have left the company, some without having jobs to go to, simply to get away from the negative and regressive Culture at the Sanford site. That many people leaving should raise a red flag, and blaming others for it will never solve the problem. Look internally and learn from your mistakes. If you don't believe this post, I would ask anyone from corporate HR to pull the list of all employees who have quit Sanford in the past year and call them to understand why they left. It would be eye-opening. Remove the "Silo Culture" that permeates the site (Distribution treated differently than Manufacturing, for example). Speak to your employees like people, with respect. And lastly, if you are going to demand and make mandatory that employees work overtime (sometimes working 2-3 weeks straight without a day off is made "Mandatory" with the threat of termination), then as a "Leader" you better be there as well. Directors and VP's should not get to enjoy family time every weekend when their employees have been forced to work 15-21 days straight with no day off, or forced to work through a holiday weekend (Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc.) That is unreasonable and cowardly for leaders.
