I worked at Council on Addiction Recovery Services full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The best part about this job would definitely be the clients.

    Cons

Unfortunately, CAReS is all about getting out of debt and earning money, so the treatment of the clinicians and clients is barely above dirt level. Clients are seen a dollar signs and clinicians are pushed so hard that they are no longer appreciated or cared about. If the facility started to work on being client-centered, they would notice a change.

    Advice to Management

Start to care about the clinicians and the clients instead of money and yourselves.

I have been working at Council on Addiction Recovery Services full-time for less than a year

    Pros

In the last year the company has grown. New staff is bringing in new ideas and a brighter environment. Staff are happy to come to work. Staff are also using their talents to enhance our programs.

    Cons

Sometimes change takes longer to implement into procedures.

    Advice to Management

Keep listening to your staff. Keep encouraging your staff to be the best at what they do.

I worked at Council on Addiction Recovery Services full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

First, the commradary of a few, too bad moments together at work are spent de-escalating each other from just up and walking out the front door in the middle of the day. Second, Jene, her compassion and empathy is the glue that holds the clinic together, what's left of it anyway!

    Cons

Where do I begin . . They pay you a "salary" but give you an hourly wage and if you are lucky enough to get a raise it is in terms of like $.20/hour, yes cents folks. This way they can exploit their employees compassion for their clients and not pay the employees overtime, despite extra hours worked on a regular basis. Flex time is a joke . . How are you supposed to flex time within 2 weeks when you are booked solid...

    Advice to Management

Clean house, let someone who is a born leader and who has the respect of the staff lead . . .

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Council on Addiction Recovery Services full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There is honestly nothing good to say about CARes. Upper management is really devious and self serving and the employees are just hurt, scared people.

    Cons

Inconsistent, self-serving management. Antiquated supervisor practices. Managers that never ever should have been managers., i.e. Prevention.

    Advice to Management

Maybe this is not your fault and you entered this business because of something that happened to you as a child, i.e., foster care, mental illness, alcoholism. Maybe you would benefit from retiring.

I have been working at Council on Addiction Recovery Services full-time for more than a year

    Pros

work life balance is good....excellent people....good people. They try to allow for flex time as much as possible...if you are salaried they will expect events an fundraisers to be promoted, worked an attended by you...an strongly urge the same if you are hourly....this is also a con-depending on ones situation and perspective.

    Cons

no raises....ever. What you start at is IT...unless you are able to job transfer...and that's limited if you aren't at least a licensed mental health worker....so try to negotiate as much $$ as possible...and ask for more than the offered time off.....they can only say no..and might say ok depending on how dire their need is.....and they have a lot of turnover because they cannot match private sector pay scales.
