I worked at County of Sacramento full-time

    Pros

Your work makes a difference in your clients' lives. Your coworkers tend to be friendly, caring, and helpful. Your benefits package is fantastic. The hourly pay is great, though personally I think for the work completed and expected, it should be higher.

    Cons

    1) Supervisors are not knowledgeable. All the wrong people are promoted. Instead of being promoted upon merit and how well they know and administer the programs, workers are promoted upon whether they are old-time friends with their supervisor. 2) You will be effectively forced to skip your breaks and lunches or to work over-time under the table because of a ridiculously high workload per worker. They essentially require you to work over-time but refuse to acknowledge or pay for it. 3) Working with the public, you will get sick more frequently than at others jobs.

    Advice to Management

Management, please be be realistic of your expectations and honor your workers' contracts. Give credit where credit is do. Acknowledge your workers' strengths instead of only criticizing their infrequent or minor mistakes.

I have been working at County of Sacramento full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits; health, dental and vision, insurance; and the retirement plan. Other benefits include sick leave and adequate personal time off benefit.

    Cons

    - Difficult to take pre-scheduled time off due to work load demands
    - The practice among some to take inappropriate advantage of WCI. False, or suspected fake, WCI's negatively affect moral for many reasons - and also leave remaining staff somewhat disabled as they work to provide services while their peer is out 'injured'.

    Advice to Management

If more investigators were used, false WCI claims would be prevented or interrupted. And the costs of hiring WCI investigators would quickly be recovered when fraudulent claims were identified.

The greater benefit of course would be that more employees would be at work and better services to the public could be provided.

    Pros

I like my income and my coworkers. If you have college education you make more money for the same amount of work than the people without college.

    Cons

In my job you never know what shift you may work . You might have to work weekends and holidays

I have been working at County of Sacramento full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The county has strong unions and better than average pay rates. There are awesome benefits with thirteen paid holidays in addition to sick leave and vacations. For those in a certain tier, Kaiser is free to the individual employee.

    Cons

The challenges are similar to most company challenges. Quite often those in high places make policies that affect lower level employees and the policy makers have no clue as to what is happening on a day to day basis.

    Advice to Management

Ask more questions of the employees doing the day to day work with the consumers and taxpayers of Sacramento County.
