    Pros

There was time for both my personal life and work. My boss personally mentored me. A very laid back atmosphere. Rarely was there any pressure to work too quickly.

    Cons

Very little drive to improve how the department operates. A number of administrative activities could have been converted to a paperless format. Though I suppose government is always a little slower than the private industry.

    Advice to Management

Seek out managers that have the drive to improve the organization. This might require hiring from outside the organization. Recognize those who increase efficiency.

    Pros

Great hours and benefits. Good pay and guaranteed raises. All holidays off. Coworkers are generally nice and helpful. Secure job minus the pay reductions.

    Cons

Boring. Any fun projects get contracted out to private bidders. Lots of paper work, permits, and grant writing. Lacking in actual design work. Road alignments, culverts, and sidewalks are only in house designs. Lacking really good design engineers for specialized projects.

    Advice to Management

Management is good but slightly disorganized from one another. Needs better lines of communication and easier to follow standards. Keep more projects in house.
