I worked at County of Santa Barbara full-time

    Pros

There are some very competent & dedicated staff

    Cons

Punitive hostile work environment created by inept senior management team. The negative tone is set by the Director who is an absolute bully.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring a Director from outside of the county. Every single one of these directors in the last 15 yrs have been a disaster as they are not invested in the welfare of the residents of this county & and are simply focused on padding their pension.

I have been working at County of Santa Barbara full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are ok if no dependants. Pay is generous compared to private sector.

    Cons

Poor management. Cliques. No advancement. Low morale. All makes for unpleasant work environment. Bad office culture, not rewarding.

    Advice to Management

Don't play favoritism, promote cliques, or talk about employees to other employees; do be involved, know what is going on, listen to the employees. Stop playing games to push for your own agenda. Maybe replace the managers and start over.

I have been working at County of Santa Barbara full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

office is nice, boss is nice, decent variety of work, downtown

    Cons

downtown (parking is crap), salary is to low for cost of living in SB, management doesn't manage, only seems to care about $$ but spends frivolously

    Advice to Management

give parking incentive so people aren't on the parking lot waiting list for years, evaluate salaries and adjust to match cost of living, stop buying department heads thousands of dollars worth of new furniture because they refuse previously used office furniture.
