I have been working at Couristan full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Couristan is an industry leader. Their products are at the forefront of style and trendsin the marketplace. Benefits at the company are good. The Cigna healthcare is great.

    Cons

Family owned. Two brothers that own the company care more about themselves then their employees. The company doesn't match a 401K.

    Advice to Management

Start valuing your employees and rewarding them more for their work and dedication

    Pros

the health benefits weren't so bad

    Cons

What an awful place. family owned, by 2 brothers. No potential for growth. No time off permitted. Earned vacation time is often rejected because of some deadline. long hours, no compensation, unless your "in" with someone. headhunters in the area are well aware of how awful this place is, as many people seek their help to leave this place

    Advice to Management

management should acknowledge others, despite their last names not being associated with Couri. Acknowledge your employees with compensation for their work.

    Pros

Huge assortment- with tons of inventory ! Marketing dept is a gem. Loads of displays systems to get placement. Awesome benefit package. Encourages self motivated people to think and do , thus capable of earning $$$$

    Cons

No company is perfect and Couristan is no different. Luckily the owners recognizes their problems and are willing to make sound investments to correct problems.

    Advice to Management

Assemble an advisory board from your top dealers and listen to what thay have to say very closely.

    Pros

    Nice products.
Mostly friendly employees, some of whose self esteem
has suffered because of the abusive management.

    Cons

Autocratic, self-entitled owners who have zero respect for their employees and treat them like indentured servants.
Bullying is tolerated, with the prime instigators the owners and senior management.
Salary increases are only grudgingly forked out if you resign (which people have been known to do without a real job in hand) or you are a favorite of the owners or senior management.
Performance reviews are nonexistent even when there was an HR department.
There are many people who are only there because it is a paycheck, an easy commute, and do not have numerous options mainly because their skills have atrophied over time.
People are not replaced when they resign or are terminated, with the workload dumped on the remaining staff who may have little, if any, knowledge of the duties thrust upon them.
It goes without saying that no additional compensation or title change goes along with the increased workload. (unless you are a favorite)
Computer systems are a joke along with the individual that is supposed to be in charge.

    Advice to Management

Not that they would take any, but sell the company to someone who will bring
the business into the 21st century.

I worked at Couristan full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Most of the employees are good people.

    Cons

The company is run by the most unprofessional business owner out there. He treats the staff like his 'help'. There is no room for growth. In 10 years no yearly review which equals no raises. Pay is dismal and there are no incentives: no raises, no bonuses, company does not contribute to your 401k, no human resources, no recognition for good work or appreciation for going above and beyond. As they let people go they just pile on work onto the next employee and there is no monetary compensation for it.

    Pros

If you can negotiate, which most of the time you cant. because of the owner, you can get a car allowance, a company card, and basic office supplies.

    Cons

The problem I had with Couristan was that I was never given the opportunity to do my job. I always had my manager or the owner calling me asking "Wheres the business?" As a sales rep you need a ramp up time to start bringing in business, roughly 3 to 6 months. and I was given a less than a month to make them 2 million dollars. While I'm saying it is possible under certain circumstances to make those sales numbers, it wasn't possible for them because those numbers are produced in a years worth of sales in this industry.

    Advice to Management

Give your employees a chance to succeed and be themselves. Theirs a reason why your company isn't doing well and its not because of your competitors "stealing" your business. Its because your company cant adapt and your shady tactics in bring in new business. If you ever let your employees speak there minds, without fear of losing there job, you will get real honest answers.
