I have been working at Coursera full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Abundance of challenging, high-impact work. Some growing pains both culturally and in the tech stack but there's a lot of positive signs that we've moved past the main issues and are still dedicated to improve further.

    Cons

Partners influence on product and engineering roadmap feels a bit much

I have been working at Coursera full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Interesting, impactful work - Amazing people - Great work/life balance - Fantastic office amenities (music room!) - Good benefits - Very promising future

    Cons

Can't think of anything (really!). There has been a reorg and a small pivot that some people were unhappy with a year or so ago (wasn't at the company yet), but everyone seems happy now.

I have been working at Coursera full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great place for growth. Company not disrupting now like crazy but business growing steadily and with degrees coming in, company seems to be doing better business wise. People are fun, brilliant and driven. Lunch and dinner catered every day and it's not bad. Ping pong and pool are lots of fun!

    Cons

Company seems to scourging for talent right now. Which can be a good thing and a bad thing. As the company grows, it may be hard to preserve the culture that coursera is known for.

    Advice to Management

Maintain a high talent bar to ensure top talent coming into company

I worked at Coursera full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

A few years ago, I asked myself whether I would regret later if I joined Coursera, and the answer was "No!". So I joined. A few years later, I moved on, and here is the review of the company: There were happy and tough times, wins and loses, just like any other startups in Bay area. As a career seeker, the main problem you need to figure out is what you want to develop in the next few years. If Coursera provides something...

    Cons

But I left, why? It doesn't fit for me anymore, and I can't find a role in such a small company that can help me grow. It was the right time for me to move on, but it doesn't mean you will face the same problem that I had. Do your own research and talk with teams, and you will know whether it is a good fit or not. 1) Tech stack was built for scale but we don't have a scale problem (yet). This includes maintaining...

I have been working at Coursera for less than a year

    Pros

Highly competitive pay ~ Highest offer received Fulfilling work Lots of growth opportunities (business is growing like crazy) Great mentorship Laid back culture Catered lunch and dinner [dinner is not that great though so don't let that fool you] Company alignment on objectives ~ You can sense the alignment at the company and org all hands

    Cons

Dinner is mediocore at best Not great onboarding for interns (still a manageable process but can feel lost at times) No structured internship (in my case) - Need to propose your own project depending on whether your manager has something for you. Don't be afraid to push back if you don't think the project idea is good. You may think someone has already vetted the idea but it could have just been a last minute idea that...

I have been working at Coursera full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - I love working for a mission-driven company, helping people develop and transform their skills creates an overall purpose to everything we do - Culture: people are passionate, collaborative, smart and down to earth. I really enjoy working with everyone - I enjoy that we're still a start up in the sense that each individual has a big impact in shaping the company - Great diversity - Flexibility: I work full time...

    Cons

Nothing out of the ordinary, the usual growing pains of a fast growing company. Mainly: 1) We need to create a more efficient and structured way of sharing knowledge and information 2) We need more engineering resources. Our product has SO much potential but we're a bit strapped right now due to resource shortages

    Advice to Management

    - We have an amazing culture of passionate, collaborative and smart people that are also authentic and down to earth, we really need to preserve this culture as we grow - We need to create a more efficient and structured way of sharing knowledge and information, this will be especially important as we're looking to grow substantially and are hiring new people every week.

I have been working at Coursera full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Revenue and users going up and to the right in all business lines. This leads to an aura of success, extra investment every few months, budget to hire and try things. - Finally moving from a "mission-only" culture to a "mission AND performance" culture. I am now convinced that my shares are going to be worth real money. - The people I work with are genuinely nice people, extremely smart and hard working, and transparent/direct...

    Cons

    - Product and engineering resources are tight - Some work left to do to be done to be truly inclusive w.r.t. remote and international employees - Could do more to celebrate each other and build a unique culture. We're still figuring it out.

    Advice to Management

    - Continue performing on business results - Invest more in enterprise, it's growing really fast - Build even more of a culture of learning at Coursera; it's what we're all about!
