Not your place for Entertprise Sales.

    Pros

Mission driven founders - who unfortunately do not matter anymore Great content and university credentials- but slowly losing edge to others

    Cons

Pathetic culture- high nepotism. No place for merit. If you are in the old boys club- you get everything/ even when underperforming. You just need to butter up the VP / SVP. Very poor HR team - no integrity. Just subservient to business. Culture of lying at the time of hiring - they bamboozle you with false job narratives - once in / u r stuck by the time you discover above Extremely inexperienced leadership in Enterprise Strategy - has no clue on sales planning that is leading to unrealistic goals.

Don't work here if you want stability and advancement

Nov 27, 2017 - Manager in Mountain View, CA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

There are some great, genuine people here. Cool brand. At one time was mission driven. Company values are good, but the CEO does not care if employees actually exemplify those values.

    Cons

No real stability, just went through a round of layoffs and got rid of people that were posting revenue positive results. Kept a number of incompetent managers. Check Re-code for more details. As mentioned, many managers are incompetent and just follow the newest shiny object, rather than making decisions that demonstrate actual understanding of the business and techniques to hit goals. Worse still, there is rampant nepotism. The Stanford mafia is real! Read the experience of executive staff and one level down, it will quickly become clear that many are not qualified for the positions they occupy. There are essentially no promotions and those who are promoted receive that recognition because of relationships, not performance. The new CEO, Jeff Maggioncalda, has run 1 company before Coursera, not a great choice for this growth company. Additionally, he laid off 15% of the company, not based on performance, even though $60M was just raised. Does he even have a heart? Benefits aren't great, e.g. no 401k matching.
