    Positive Outlook

    I have been working at Court Appointed Special Advocates full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    It's hard to beat San Francisco CASA's mission, and the size and structure gives everyone an opportunity to make a real difference. It's small enough that you gain experience in various areas of nonprofit management. And the volunteers add energy and enthusiasm to every day.

    Cons

    As a small organization, there are not always opportunities for advancement for every position.

      I worked at Court Appointed Special Advocates full-time for more than a year

      Pros

      The mission and purpose of the organization. Which is not enough to keep working at a poorly run organization. Work/ life balance is good because people are not expected to be in the office more than once a week.

      Cons

      Each chapter is run independently making each chapter extremely different and also promoting a strange culture. Where I worked, management is extremely underqualified and has zero experience in leading a team. Complacent people who never leave are on the management team, they are always working from home, are extremely unprofessional, and it is embarrassing how they are representing the organization. I worked at Court Appointed Special Advocates full-time for more than a year

      Pros

      CASA offices are small teams and it is very close-knit. At CASA-Jefferson and Gilpin Counties the office was friendly and fairly supportive of one another. The vacation time and work from home option was a big plus.

      Cons

      Pay is very low, no room for growth and benefits are minimal.

      Advice to Management

      I would do a restructure. A solid case coordinator can take on more CASAs and more tasks which would allow for more funding which means better pay, benefits, and growth opportunities.

      I worked at Court Appointed Special Advocates full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

      Sense of purpose, volunteers are motivated to do a good job,

      Cons

      like most nonprofits the wage is not liveable without a second part time position, hours are not set: there will be some evening hours and possibly Saturdays/weekends that will be scheduled; families are not often willing to let CASA into their homes;

      Advice to Management

      Support the staff, understand that they are often stressed since they are the go between for families, social workers and volunteers; please don't add your stress to the office enviornment;
