    Pros

Work is always available, opportunity to move up, great benefits. Company pays for all clothes and gear. Exciting place to be, diverse workforce.

    Cons

Large company- seems to be a lot Bureaucracy and hoops to jump through to make changes. Still a customer service based position, not a good fit for people who hate working with the public.

I worked at Covanta full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great company, great benefits, great work environment, working for any department is good EXCLUDING INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY.

    Cons

IT - Management Heavy, 1 - 2 employees to Management, 2 Directors in IT with no one reporting to them, Unfair promotions. Covanta IT Management lack the necessary skills to promote for give the company any real directions about new technology. Also known fact that most if not all of the plants lack any respect for the IT department.

    Advice to Management

Need to replace all IT Management or clean house of IT Management, but that might be too late, Covanta has just outsource the entire IT Infrastructure team, EXCLUDING IT MANAGEMENT. - STOP THEM AND CLEAN HOUSE THE RIGHT WAY

I worked at Covanta full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Innovative IT department. CIO was very good. Lots of training. Large enough company to be known in the industry yet small enough to know most people in the corporate headquarters

    Cons

Salary increases with promotions are minimal. So you wait for a promotion. Finally get it. Then salary barely moves up.

I have been working at Covanta full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits package, Morristown HQ is accessible to major highways, cubicles are a good size, multiple kitchens on company floor, facility employees are awesome and understand teamwork.

    Cons

Covanta is not moving fast enough to keep employees here. You will notice there are new hires and 10+ veterans but not many in between. If you're looking for professional development opportunities this is not the place. HR's efforts at employee relations and culture are pitiful. Too much dead weight at the higher level. I was hoping to grow at this company but after several years I am moving quick to get out. There are many hand to forehead and huh? moments when new initiatives roll out at Covanta. Like including sick days as PTO days which encourages people to come into work ill so they don't have to use vacation time when sick.

    Advice to Management

Your senior management team should represent your company and where you envision Covanta going. What does Covanta's team represent? If you'd like to hire and retain talent, get rid of the 45+ white male boys club and find an HR department that will fight for its employees. Your issue isn't just at the facilities, it's at HQ as well.

    Pros

    Great work environment
    Excellent benefits
    Work life balance
The company has a clear strategy for moving forward
    Hard and dedicated employees

    Cons

Pay is not inline with other companies and the HR group is out of touch with the reality of what positions pay in NJ.

    Advice to Management

The technology organization is making great progress turning around years of problems and we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Keep investing and moving forward with our new strategy!

I have been working at Covanta full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Covanta management is strong and is supportive. Company has many employees that are 10 and 20 year veterans. That should speak to if working for Covanta is a career move or just a temporary stop. I have been relatively pleased with making the move to Covanta

    Cons

Communication has been difficult in the past by having a sectioned off department structure. This is slowly starting to change through some restructuring and acknowledgement from senior leadership.

    Pros

For the IT department, there's a lot of work and new projects constantly coming up. You can learn a lot while on the job.

    Cons

Very little down time and difficult to take a break.

    Pros

    I can't think of any.

    Cons

Manager thought it was OK to swear at employee. Bet he wouldn't do that outside of work.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the trash. That may mean quitting and letting folks come in who can actually manage their employees.
