I have been working at Covidien full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Summer hours. 4 weeks of PTO. Young, friendly, energetic group of co-workers. Employee stock purchase program available. Ample opportunities for experience and growth if you are favored but only to a certain extent.

    Cons

Parking sucks. 401k matching is based off of the performance of the company. Management does not care about their employees. If you are not well-liked or favored by management, there are no opportunities or room for growth. Managers of all levels are ridiculously disrespectful and immature. High turnover rate. Do not expect to leave on good terms. Resignations are taken personally and managers taint the departing employee's reputation with gossip and rumors. Unprofessional behavior displayed at all levels.

    Advice to Management

The managers, directors and VPs need to be trained on how to be managers. Train your managers before you put them in management positions. People are leaving your inept managers and management skills. Show that you care about your employees. Stop being so concerned with your own career growth. Be fair and stop showing favoritism to certain employees.

    I worked at Covidien full-time

    Pros

    Solid, hardworking teammates
    Make products that improve healthcare
    Decent benefits

    Cons

Management not trained to be managers
A lot of passive, aggressive behavior
Lack of training for the role
Too much "old-guard" thinking. New ideas are not appreciated
You need to "get in line" or get out.
    Company grew too fast

    Advice to Management

Train managers to be leaders, not bosses. Give projects teams the resources they need to be successful. Get rid of the toxic employees.

    I worked at Covidien full-time

    Pros

Many opportunities to move in the company (so long as it's somewhere else).

    Good pay.

    Cons

Pay for salaried Supervisors took a major hit after the Medtronic acquisition. Supervisors at this plant are now expected to work over the weekend, once a month, for 12 hours each day for free. In the past, we would be paid straight time for the OT. This effectively cut the pay by over $10,000/year.

A lot of in-fighting with management, resulting in high turnover of high level management.

    Advice to Management

Treat your Supervisors as part of your management team. They are your extension when you are not there (which is often).

More floor presence by upper management (FF Managers, OPS Mgr, Plant gr, etc.).

Eliminate the Us-vs-Them mentality between Management-Front Office-Hourly work force.

Require ALL Operations Supervisors and Managers to work weekend shifts just as the Supervisors are doing now. (Supervisors, FF Managers, OPS Manager and Plant Manager).
