    Pros

I have had a great experience at Cox Media Group. It is a positive place to work and I feel encouraged to excel.

    Cons

I often feel challenged to work hard and do my best but I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing.

    Advice to Management

I would just say the HR system is rather cumbersome and slightly difficult to navigate.

I have been working at Cox Media Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

COX has been very good to me. Good benefits, and corporate ethos that's driven to win.

    Cons

At the local level, it sometimes takes too long to replace those who've make moved on.

    Advice to Management

Can't think of too much... just make you keep taking care of your workers, and keep the roster fully-staffed.

I have been working at Cox Media Group (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Like all media companies, the work is fast paced and exciting. If you like to work somewhere that has minimal downtime where shifts move quickly then this is a good place for you

    Cons

The work can quickly take ahold of your entire life. Even though the TV business is 24/7 your shift can easily switch day parts throughout a given week

    Advice to Management

Hire enough people to actually cover the needs of your operations. Oftern I've noticed that this would mean having 1 extra person to alleviate everyone in a department working 50+ hours a week while someone is on vacation.

I have been working at Cox Media Group full-time

    Pros

Cox Media Group offers a great culture - especially on the newspaper division's digital and technology teams. The teams are dedicated, hard working, and know the value of their talent as well as the importance of treating everyone with respect.

    Cons

The media industry is under pressure, so we are often asked to do more with less.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in digital innovation initiatives, you are already doing this with great results in the new content verticals. The overall goals can be achieved, but we will need additional investments on the flagship brands as well.

    Pros

Solid, profitable, family-run company. They pretty much walk their talk of "we win with our people." Good support for work-life balance and all that.

    Cons

In my group (web application development) we suffered when the leadership made a 180 turn and started a plan whose end-game (buying solutions from vendors instead of building them in house) was the elimination of our team's reason for existence. A fine business strategy, but poor communication caused morale to plummet and talent to flee.

    Advice to Management

In major decisions, communicate early with managers at all levels above individual contributors, to make sure you really understand your resources and the effect your plans will have on the team.

Excellent strategic management. Local management has autonomy and accountability. Exceptional training, resources, and unmatched benefits in our industry.

    Cons

They have sold some stations and reduced their footprint.

    Advice to Management

Keep setting the standard for the industry.

I have been working at Cox Media Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits including vested pension after 5 years; lots of perks like free tickets to events if you have a contact in sales; somewhat relaxed environment -- if traffic is doing well.

    Cons

An increasingly "business like" environment, even in digital web production. What was once a relaxed environment has become very stressful.

    Advice to Management

N/A, there's no going back once the job becomes less "family" and more of a commodity.

    Pros

It was so much fun to work here! Everyone is so nice!

    Cons

The pay can be low for some positions, but you can move up within the company. There is definitely room for growth.

    Advice to Management

    Nothing! They're awesome!

A company that truly believes in their employees demonstrates this with constant training and education. This was a hallmark of Cox. They spared no expense in continuously providing the newest training available. They gave us an edge in every way.

    Cons

    None. They are outstanding.

    Advice to Management

Please keep investing in your employees knowledge base. It always pays off!
