      Needs improvement

Apr 19, 2019 - Registered Nurse in Springfield, MO

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Staff works well together, great team work. Management tries to accommodate work scheduling and improving communication.

      Cons

Pay is substandard for nursing. The pay ceiling is low and "merit increases" apparently are just a fiction if you are bumping up against the pay ceiling. A merit increase of "2.5%" can translate to a mere 33 cents an hour. That is about as good as I got working in high school at McDonald's...very insulting after many years of nursing experience and care. Explains turnover rate. 2) Benefits. Not inexpensive. Cafeteria is expensive for meals...even with an employee discount, it is comparable to eating takeout. When you pay almost 5 dollars for a small cup of soup and a small salad...that's pretty expensive, even with a "discount". 3) Time off/low census: Push is for low census on numbers...you better be prepared to eat your paycheck or use up vacation hours at the convenience of the hospital. As a result, what they say you are working and getting paid for is a false narrative. You might be hired to work 80 hours a pay period, but if you are low censused (meaning you don't work because the hospital doesn't have enough patients), you either use your vacation time (earned) to fill the gap or you don't get paid. Unlike the salary scale, there is no cap to low census hours either. So you are essentially laid off without being laid off. Works great for the hospital, not so great when you have bills to pay. 4) Holidays: you either get time and a half for the 6 major holidays or you take the day off...that would be without pay or use your vacation pay. in other words, there are NO Paid Holidays. Earned Time Off: pretty limited the first few years...you get less than 3 weeks a year as an RN..well below the national average. In summary: the hospital's pay and benefits are well below the national average.

Need more competitive pay for long term employees

      May 14, 2019 - Anonymous Employee

      Pros

It’s a locally owned hospital system that is not corporate ran.

      Cons

Salary is below the National average ... and less than the other local hospital system. Treatment of long term employees is sub-par! Cost of living adjustments are not what they claim. It’s usually not given across the board - those at ceiling on wages for their particular job pay the price and don’t usually get adjusted!

      Great Hospital

      Pros

They provide excellent patient care, so you know you are working among the best. Everyone works as a team and is very friendly. After you have been there for several years, you earn a lot of vacation time.

      Cons

Wages are far below the national average for similar positions, and even for the state of Missouri. Raises are very small, they nickle and dime you along unless you are in upper management. Health insurance is disappointing, especially considering employees receive their care from the hospital they work for. The deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums are high.

      Employees are the key

Jul 11, 2017 - Certified Surgical Technologist in Springfield, MO

      Business Outlook

      Pros

The employees are a great bunch of people truly dedicated to taking care of people. Payroll withdrawal for medical bills. Tuition reimbursement.

      Cons

Management is very sketchy. Some departments are great, some make your worst nightmares seem pleasant(surgery dept). Surgery department management create a negative/bullying environment and are manly concerned with how many surgeries can be jammed into a day.Lunch/bathroom breaks are considered a luxury. Pay is significantly lower than the national average. Health insurance for employees and family is expensive.

      Below Average Wages

Dec 6, 2017 - Emergency Department RN in Springfield, MO
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great facility to get top notch training. This is a Level 1 Trauma center and I honestly believe you’ll get the best training available. The top leadership in the ER are strong advocates of their nurses.

      Cons

Pay is significantly less than the national average for RN's. This creates extremely high turnover. As soon as people get trained they leave the area for higher paying jobs. Benefits are more costly than most other employers this size.

Best hospital in Springfield, but the bar is low

Feb 6, 2014 - Registered Nurse in Springfield, MO
      Recommend

      Business Outlook

      Pros

There are some great people scattered throughout the organization, at every level. Great learning opportunities.

      Cons

RN Pay is $15,000-$20,000 below national average unless you have 20+ years of experience. Organization is historically top-heavy (though the new CEO appears to be properly trimming)
