I have been working at Cracker Barrel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ok pay. I make $2.25 over minimum wage as a back up cook. Not sure what the competition offers for the same position, though!

    Cons

Day 2 (first day out of orientation and on the actual job), I've been made to work off the clock. Talking to higher ups tomorrow to fix the situation, will update if things go better than I expect. This is standard practice for my position, as told to me by my trainer, a woman claiming to be with the company on and off for 18 years.

Can't get direct deposit for the first thirty days, have to use the company pay card. Not entirely sure this is legal, either.

Meals have to be eaten before, during or after shift, in the break room, and CANNOT be shared. Not sure why I'm being held ransom with my own meals that I STILL have to pay for. Discount or not, I don't look kindly on companies that can't even give their near minimum wage employees free food when that's what the business is, let alone companies that want to dictate when and where I can eat said meal!

    Advice to Management

Don't make employees work off the clock!

Don't force a stupid pay card. Ever. Period. Even if it's not illegal, it's a really inconsiderate thing to do.

Just feed your employees. It's the least you can do! And if they want to get the heck home after a long day and eat that meal in the comfort of their own home, and maybe share it with their spouse, why is it any of your business?

Maybe these policies serve some other purpose than to line your pockets with more money but I don't see it. There are plenty of other businesses that don't use these practices. Now I understand why my orientation and computer training time is minimum wage instead of my regular wage, you expect me to quit and you want to recoup a little of your cost. Why not a change your policies and not drive people off instead? Or, radical idea here, pay five more an hour and watch your employee retention shoot through the roof. Just my 2 cents as the little guy.
