I have been working at Crane & Co. full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Pay and benefits are good. Health insurance plans are great with options for dental and vision. They have a drug and alcohol policy so be aware they follow federal law.

    Cons

Management is terrible. Micro managers who do not have any regard or concerns about their employees. HR sides with management so complaining is useless . Moral among workers is extremely low and depressing. They will not update any equipment and breakdowns occur often. Corporate is run by a bunch of greedy people who are milking the company dry and only care about the investors. It's a shame to see a 200+ old former family...

    Advice to Management

Managers and supervisors treat your employees with respect and stop micro managing them. Let them do thier job. Try talking to the employees and ask what you can do to make their job more enjoyable and improve moral. Stop pushing process excellence and 5S programs than don't work and no one wants you be involved in. HR stand up for employees and stop protecting managers and supervisors. Corporate...

I worked at Crane & Co. full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

    They pay really well. $$$

    Cons

You will have no life. And the days you do have off you'll be to tired to do anything. 12 hour shifts that constantly rotate (really screws up your sleeping schedule). It took me 3 years after I left to sleep normal again.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees

I have been working at Crane & Co. full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

used to be a great place to work until the Crane family sold out to NY Investment company. Pay and benefits are OK.

    Cons

Working hours are terrible. Some jobs work 12 hour days up to 6 days a week and others work 8 hours up to 13 days in a row. Moral is very low because of the long working hours. The corporate office is in Boston and the CEO and his cronies are milking the company dry to pay the investors. The company is being taken apart and sold. You can't trust anything the executives or managers tell you. The are not investing in any...

    Advice to Management

Take care of the employees you have. Don's lie to them and start listening to their complaints and suggestions. They are very close to bringing in a union to resolve the issues.

I worked at Crane & Co. full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Good benefits. Once was a good company. Climate has taken severe downturn.

    Cons

Poor work life balance. No chance for personal advancement. Constant employee turnover. Gone from employee based to use of temps at lower wages. Abusive, disrespectful treatment of full time, higher paid, higher benefitted long term employees. Poor HR and man, agement skills. Lean manufacturing has produced chaotic, poor management skills. Goals and long term focus nonexistent.

    Advice to Management

Employees are the basis of your company. Pay more attention to the needs and advice of those real professionals on the manufacturing floor. Stop eliminating experienced, hard working people replacing with low temps! Your company needs a new direction! It is failing miserably!

    "Crane & Company PaperMakers"

    StarStarStarStarStar
Former Employee - Sales Associate, Associate Manager in Dallas, TX

I worked at Crane & Co. for more than 9 years

      Pros

When Crane owned the company before they sold the retail stores to outside investors the company was a well-run, family-owned privately held retailer with excellent training, benefits and salary. Quality products and a quality vibe permeated the company.

      Cons

The retail stores were sold to an outside investor who had grandiose ideas and no funds. Things went downhill quickly and the stores went bankrupt.

      Advice to Management

You should have kept things the way there were...or shut the company down completely.

I have been working at Crane & Co. full-time for more than 20 years

      Pros

Casual dress code (beats having to dress up every day), profit sharing (but only if your specific division is profitable), wellness program incentive, ability to work with minimal supervision.

      Cons

When I started, it was a fun place to work. Benefits were great, processes were flowing, people enjoyed coming to work. Over the past few years there have been several changes in upper management and each one has caused more harm by implementing processes that have proven to not work for our business. Crane acquired William Arthur and in the process got rid of a bunch of seasoned employees, then a few months later had...

      Advice to Management

Before implementing a new procedure for a department try including the people who actually do the job every day (not the supervisors & managers) in the process! Mandatory overtime can backfire. Productivity & quality go down when worked too much. Happy employees = quality products!
