I have been working at Crate and Barrel full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Many full-time positions. Generous discount. Benefits for full-time employees.

    Cons

A company known for family values is being destroyed by businessmen/women who believe making an example of stores "failures" is the best way to increase profit and productivity.

Everything you are asked to do in a day is given a specific time limit that does not take in to consideration getting involved with a customer or other task.

Stores are "graded" based on performance, and "rated" to make an example of them.

Reviews have "exceeds and far exceeds" options, but you are told that you will never get them. (So why would anyone bother trying to achieve that?)

Structure of management does not hold store manager accountable. Nobody monitors the tasks that the store manager is doing. If the store is making numbers, the store manager must be doing their job. All other staff is held accountable for everything that needs to happen in the store.

I have never worked somewhere where SO many people come in unhappy every day to a place that used to be productive and fun.

    Advice to Management

You should want happy employees who want to do a great job, not employees who are doing the job because they are afraid of getting in trouble or being made an example of.

I worked at Crate and Barrel full-time

    Pros

+ The discounts are phenomenal (although still difficult to afford most of the furniture)
+ Even better discounts after 5 years - and you can gift your discount too!
+ Those you work closest with become your closest friends
+ Constantly moving and on your feet all day - very active job!
+ Every day is different - floor moves, inventory, changing seasons - always something new going on
    + Decent health insurance
+ Bonuses if you make quarterly numbers

    Cons

    - Never seen more favoritism in my life... Most members of the management group within my store became best friends and were allowed to get away with things other weren't allowed to do ("uniforms", cell phones, manager on duty shifts, picking and choosing their own schedule, never closing, etc). Made for a very toxic environment.
    - Did some massive corporate restructuring a couple of years ago and let go of a lot of great talent
    - "Raises" were a joke. Couldn't even be considered a cost-of-living raise
    - Schedule posted typically on Wednesdays for schedule starting on Sunday, so not much time to plan a social life, although working full-time your schedule mostly stays the same)

    Advice to Management

You hired the team that you did for a reason. Treat them with respect and make them feel valued. No employee should feel like they're constantly walking on eggshells because they aren't one of your "favorites"

I have been working at Crate and Barrel full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Sells great products, good work life balance

    Cons

lack of imagination in the company, everything old school, still asks for emails from customers and sends out at least 5 emails a day like spam. asks employees to push credit cards onto customers even when they decline .

    Advice to Management

Needs to change drastically if crate wants to last in this changing retail world.

I have been working at Crate and Barrel part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun environment with beautiful product! I am lucky enough to be in a location where everyone gets along and truly enjoy working with one another. It makes coming to work fun, and customers can tell when you like your job, it radiates.

    Cons

It's retail.. you get weird hours and unfortunately some even weirder people from time to time.
Communication is poor in some spots. We all work spotty schedules so it's hard to get everyone on the same page (whether this be details about promotions, store policies, specific store location requirements, display requirements, etc.)

    Advice to Management

Give your FT and PT staff more hours before hiring a bunch of seasonal staff that don't get adequate training.. not to mention, no new comers really get trained very well.

    Pros

Great furniture place to work and great people to work with. Very convenient location for all tourist to visit.

    Cons

    The only downside is that
he store is closing in January not good.

    Advice to Management

I would like for the store not to close and keep business growing for the custome and employee. If you are going to have a star Bucks inside please have crate barrel on first levels.
Have Starbucks on the third and fourth that would make me happy.
