I worked at Creative Artists Agency for less than a year

    Pros

Very well designed internship program that exposes you to many different facets of the company/entertainment industry – great range of speakers who provided a lot of insight. Felt like I was doing substantive work and learned a lot. Agents/assistants were very open to talking with interns, and the intern class itself was a great group of people.

    Cons

Some departments had more work than others, leaving some interns with a lot of free time

I worked at Creative Artists Agency full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great exposure to entertainment industry. Meet a ton of people. Always a lot of excitement happening. Working at CAA with teach you a lot and help you get to wherever you want to go next (if you don’t want to be an agent).

    Cons

Long hours and not great pay for assistants, but that is to be expected in this industry. Moving up can be difficult to navigate and very political.

I worked at Creative Artists Agency full-time for more than a year

    Pros

CAA is, without a doubt, an amazing company to work for if you want to work in the entertainment business. CAA's client list is formidable. The level of access is unparalleled. The deals brokered are at the highest level. If you are the kind of person who wants to take ownership of your career and move forward in the entertainment industry then CAA is the place for you. There are so many opportunities for those willing to be patient, work hard and network. There are definitely some perks to working at CAA, such as occasionally engaging with high profile clients, free event tickets, inside information on the goings-on within the entertainment industry, etc. But you don't get as many perks as the company leads you to believe.

    Cons

The pay is terrible, the hours are long. Some agents and executives are known for being very challenging to work for. HR has an extremely limited role in your career development and work conditions - in reality, this is entirely up to your boss. Your life at CAA is entirely dependent on your boss - make sure you like them! Moving up in CAA is quite political. Usually, this depends on who your boss is and how much clout they have within the company. Some assistants get stuck working for three or four (or more!) years and don't get promoted. If you're going to do it, work out where the opportunities are in the business are (read: growth), and try and move there. The highly competitive positions will most likely be taken by far better-connected colleagues.

    Advice to Management

Pay your assistants a livable wage. The reason you have a diversity problem is because the pay is so low. It's no secret that basically the only people who can afford to work at CAA are those with wealthy parents who can supplement their income.

I have been working at Creative Artists Agency full-time

    Pros

Access to high-level entertainment industry players. Supportive environment. Great Community of assistants.

    Cons

Crappy Pay. Non existent work life balance. Very clique-y. Reminds me of high school, but with bigger egos. But hey, it's Hollywood. Nobody is there to make a lot of money, they're there because they love entertainment. Don't get into entertainment for the wrong reasons. Assistants who don't know how bad it is at other agencies might think they could do better elsewhere. For me, this was leaps ahead of ICM in terms of IT, HR, and Community.
