I worked at Credit Suisse full-time

    Pros

Great external reputation in the financial world, friendly and mostly younger employees, great benefits (medical, 401k, PTO). Credit Suisse is also big on internal mobility and urges employees to try out new roles within the organization.

    Cons

Compensation is less than industry average, since Credit Suisse prides itself on optimizing cost-cutting strategies in case of a market downturn. It seems as though management expects long hours to be put in, but there is no over-time pay (only half time). Promotions process is ambiguous and promotions are hard to come by, and seems to be more based on networking rather than performance. It doesn't seem like there... is a lot of room for career growth, I've seen many people who have been with the firm for 3+ years who have not yet been up for promotion. There is high analyst attrition and many get their 1-2 years of experience before moving on. I've seen multiple candidates hired with no former business education or background (leading to slow learning curves and decreased performance).

    Advice to Management

If you would like to increase retention of analysts, create more transparency within the promotions process. An increase in pay would likely also help. Promote a better work/life balance. Have a more thorough interview process to bring in better candidates.

I have been working at Credit Suisse full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Corporate culture is pretty relaxed in some departments. There are some good managers who are willing to lend a helping hand to the younger generations entering the workforce. Good mentors around the firm. There are many network groups to help employees feel a part of this place.

    Cons

Like any other place, the bad apples can be discouraging to the younger generations. Older structures are harder to change, unless your manager is willing to be open minded. Have heard from senior managers that the corporate structure is different from other firms in the industry.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to share your knowledge with the up and coming generation. We are here to learn and hopefully one day be in your position.

I have been working at Credit Suisse full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great benefits and some teams are very flexible when it comes to working from home or hours. Pay raise every year.

    Cons

Pay is low, especially for people right out of college. Moving up is difficult because they hire based on years of experience, not whether you are qualified for the job. At least 3-5 years before receiving any type of management position. Plenty of opportunity to move internally among different teams but difficult to move vertically.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring internally based on years of experience and give younger, less experienced people opportunity as long as they have what it takes.
