Good management - as long as you get into the right team.

    Cons

A lot of cuts due to restructuring. It's the general theme in the market and industry but it's a downer when you see folks leave around you everyday

    Pros

Great benefits, positive culture of doing the right thing for colleagues and clients.

    Cons

To get promoted, your manager nominates you for promotion and makes their case to a promotion committee which includes people from other departments. The committee must approve the promotion. Often many on the committee don't know you personally because they don't work with you, and you're just a name on a piece of paper, so if they disagree that you should be promoted it doesn't matter that your team thinks you should be promoted. Thus, this process heavily favors extroverts and people who join lots of extra-curricular activities and groups which enables them to know many people in other departments and get their names out there. If you just want to do a good job and then go home at the end of the day you will be disadvantaged against those who are always networking and getting involved in outside-of-work stuff.

    Advice to Management

Eliminate promotion by committee. Allow department heads to decide who in their department should be promoted.

  7. "Nice place to work overall"

I have been working at Credit Suisse full-time

    Pros

Very collegial atmosphere despite that everyone is so busy, strong commitment to public service, excellent trainings (although some are repetitive).

    Cons

Recent transition period with mass lay-offs and cost-cutting, seems difficult to get promoted "on time", you better hit it off with your direct manager as there is no recourse in review process otherwise.

    Advice to Management

Appreciative of all updates on the restructuring and notes of thanks - would be great if they came even more frequently and were more detailed.
