I worked at Cree full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Met some amazing co-workers and plan to stay friends with them.

    Cons

Too many VP's and not enough people doing the actual work

    Advice to Management

Instead of cutting all of the people that are doing the real work every time there is a "budget cut", think about letting go of some of the VP's with the inflated salaries

I have been working at Cree full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Onsite gym, nice cafeteria, some really good people.

    Cons

Lack of leadership, incompetent managers and still operates as a "good ole boy network". Good designs but unable to control manufacturing process.

    Advice to Management

First level management and individual contributors should be listened to as they see the issues first hand. Senior management does not want to hear it as they know it all! Very poor senior management from the director level up.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

This will be a positive change for the company. Cree has strong technology and good people. The company has great products in all of their businesses. But the company is worth more if it broken into pieces than kept whole.

    Cons

The CEO was unable to convert the company into a profitable Lighting company and this put stress on all parts of the company including the profitable pieces. It is never fun to work in a company that is failing. And the stock market, customers, and their competitors all knew the company was weakened.

    Advice to Management

Get a High Impact CEO that will split up the company. For Lighting they need to acquire or merge to improve their channels. Sell the Power Rf business to TI, and make the LED Component business a separate company as the government won't let you sell it to an Asian Company. This is the best way for your shareholders and employees.

    Pros

As of May 2017 there are no compelling reasons to want to work here. After letting somewhere between 50 - 100 people go "due to poor performance" there is no evidence that the management that got the company this position can get it out of the mess its in. Consequently its back to core job functions, and those people are under the gun the deliver without adequate resource

    Cons

The company has had horrible reliability on its products over the last year or more with huge returns, lack of ability to deliver much, and if they do its never on time. Customers are deserting this sinking ship - no surprise - and every quarter the returns hit the bottom line. Blame is placed on 3rd party vendors but ultimately its the company that manages that aspect of the product. It a long steep road to recovery

    Advice to Management

Find people who know how to run the business. You cannot save yourself out of trouble.

    I worked at Cree full-time

    Pros

Lighting Division was initially an OK part of the Company to work for.

    Cons

Extremely poor Management, with no direction. Company is heading down hill really fast.

    Advice to Management

Find a direction and stay with it. Laying off the workers and not changing poor management will not save the company or motivate the ones left.
