I have been working at Cree full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It's a steady job even some of its businesses go slow. Hard workers will stay considered for fair review. However still not enough for some all.

    Cons

Management is working only for the profit of the their own. Your communication mostly are ignored as actions. Reviews or incentives are disappointing. Move forward to next level is quite impossible unless you know someone...

    Advice to Management

Management need more clear actions towards employees. Ignorance will take to a negative reactions.

I worked at Cree full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Recent culture as an up-and-comer, disrupting a stalwart industry through aggressiveness and innovation.

    Cons

Past "cowboy culture", while resulting in "hyper growth" for several years, involved ragged attention to quality, process, and culture, which has now caught up to Cree. Throughout 2016 and through at least mid-2017, the company is facing significant revenue headwinds and new competitive pressures that are resulting in major share loss. As a result, the company has repeatedly downsized its workforce and is layering management with outsides who will change the culture from innovation to bureaucracy. High turnover, high burnout environment these days.

    Advice to Management

Cree has several very challenging years ahead of them.

    Pros

Every day is different and you will never be bored. A lot of challenges and new projects mean you will never be stuck doing the same thing.

    Cons

A lack of defined job structure can mean that day to challenges can overwhelm and individual. There is no regularity to fall back on.

"Nothing Different from Other Big Companies"

    I worked at Cree full-time

    Pros

Like all public-owned giant flagships, Cree offers good employee benefits, like decent health insurance, stock rewards, employee stock purchase plans, etc. I used to be proud of working for Cree, for that I could be a small part of a big difference.

    Cons

Also like other big ships, Cree had such a large crew that it was not easy to organize. Lacking of clear directions or communications across departments and teams sometimes made the work inefficient. Each division could only see a small part of the whole picture and focused on its own targets. Sometimes it was good, for that there was less distraction. Sometimes not, things could get political and dramatic.

Cree was trying really hard to reshape and reaim herself in reaction to the changes in lighting business. However for such a giant ship, it takes time (you can see that from the stock price). She had a brilliant and cheerful crew, but after a long, tough journey, the crew became less cheerful. Rumors began to spread, an intense atmosphere was building up and would not be easy to shake off. If you want to apply for a job in Cree, you should ask yourself if you will feel happy working in such a work environment, for a relatively long period of time.

    Advice to Management

There is really nothing unique of Cree, compared to other big companies, so there is little I can say but Good Luck.
