I have been working at Creighton University full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The students are amazing, curious and committed to social justice

    Cons

Lack of diversity both in the student body, faculty and staff

    Advice to Management

Try to live to your own Jesuit values by increasing the diversity in your population - this is a white campus in a world that is very diverse. It is hard to advance a global agenda when our campus is not global or even represent the local population

I worked at Creighton University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great education benefits, IF you are there long enough to be eligible to use them. Generally, good people working there. Strong Catholic environment for those who like that. Closed over Christmas.

    Cons

Very poor leadership in a time of budget crisis. Staff was targeted for cuts, but did not know what was happening, or what to expect. Every day you went to work, you expected that you or someone else in your department could be cut without notice. No consideration for the workload that remaining staff would be expected to absorb, or the stress that those who remained would endure. Hit-or-miss training for department managers on how to effectively lead their teams. Some were great, while some were lousy. Very limited opportunities to advance once you obtained an entry-level position. Pay and benefits below average for the Omaha market.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your staff, who are working harder than ever. And by "better care," I mean very specifically -- higher pay, more generous benefits, and more career advancement opportunities. A great culture doesn't pay the bills or make up for a lack of job security.
