I worked at Crescent Real Estate (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits are outstanding and the culture provides everything you need. People are professional and work to create a team atmosphere and a performance culture.

    Cons

Tracks market conditions so workforce size has adapted from early fast growth in the 90s to selling itself, returning to manage the same assets it sold, selling a large portion of those assets and now it appears back to acquisition mode.

    Advice to Management

You created a pretty amazing culture in the 90s through 2006 or so and it was different from 2007 through more recently though steady. Hope to watch the company build again.

I worked at Crescent Real Estate full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Corporate was awesome and helpful. Great benefits. The corporate accounting team has a huge wealth of knowledge especially the senior corporate accountant.

    Cons

The subsidiary I worked with needed substantial work—The manager had absolutely no idea how to run a business and was completely unprofessional in so many aspects. The manager is overly dramatic about everything, claiming to have time for anything, works 12 hour days, yet never seems to actually finish anything, often letting huge items slip through the cracks, often claiming to never receive important documents that, remarkably, everyone else has received. Often claims to never have been taught how to perform certain tasks that everyone else seems to have been taught, etc. The manager is never the one to blame or take accountability for anything; whatever it is, it is never her fault, always something, or someone else’s fault.

I really could not believe my eyes and ears at the lack of empowerment. Warning: if you see this job posted, do not take it, run.

    Advice to Management

Audit your subsidiaries before they ruin your company. Seriously look at this choice for a manager. There are good reasons people constantly complain about this particular manager.

    Pros

Good company with great working atmosphere!

    Cons

Layoffs killed the company. Sold all of their properties and let almost entire staff go. Not much of a company these days.

    Advice to Management

When you build a company that everyone loves, dont kill it to make an immediate profit!

    Pros

A great company to be a part of. Very blessed to have learned so much and been a part of a great organization even through the rough times.

    Cons

Was a part of this organization when it was thriving and then when the layoffs started. The only con is that it is no longer a growing and thriving company.

I worked at Crescent Real Estate full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the best people I have ever been associated with. Smart, very hard working, creative and highly ethical. Pay was good.

    Cons

We worked very hard, but we were building the company then. There were some politics, but isn't there always? My time with the company ended before it was sold to MSREF but much of the same management is still in place.

    Advice to Management

Avenues of communication weren't very strong. I felt like top management was in a bubble.

    Pros

The job was almost perfect. The ability to make decisions and be a creative problem solver is fantastic. There is an immediate level of resposibility and great deal of muli-tasking required for success - also something that I loved. The benefits were good and compensations above others in the market.

    Cons

The downside was that I was not allowed to take time off without a lot of drama. This is not a diverse company, they do not embrace or encourage minorities to hold managment positions. Unfortunately, this seems to be company wide. There is also a culture of elitism that is dominant in some of the buildings, but not all buildings - others are great. It really depends on where you are and who the property managers are.

    Advice to Management

Senior management should spend some time at the property level and investigate issues when things come up so they can see and understand where the real problems are.
