I have been working at Cristal full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some of the most wonderful people to work with around the globe, very little politics, and great coffee. Great benefits. Regional management tries hard to keep morale up.

    Cons

Soul tearing restructure/layoff by Tasnee (Saudi parent) in 2016, followed by office closing and forced relocation to Glen Burnie (take it or leave). But wait, there's more! Buyout attempt by Tronox in 2017 so Tasnee decided to stop investing, then the FTC decided it's a terrible idea to make an oligopoly industry even smaller, Tronox sues but God knows where that's headed after a year of complete uncertainty with more unknowns to come.

Tasnee continues to pretend Cristal and her employees don't exist and are doing everything they can to maximize the sale and destroying a great company in the process. Talents leaving left and right.

Reading Tronox's Glassdoor reviews make things worse, or makes me feel better I don't work there (yet), not sure which is better.

    Advice to Management

Maximize Cristal's value through investing in plants and her people. The sale isn't done until it's done.

I have been working at Cristal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Hard to think of any today, but a good process and industry. Pay Okay, but not worth the negatives

    Cons

Delay in Tronox take over has worsened conditions in the plants. Global groups and people scrambling to justify their existence. Injecting chaos and unhelpful projects to justify their having jobs.

Lots of talk about culture change, however it is all false. Same small group of management lives in an echo chamber and hears only what it wants to hear.

    Advice to Management

Rapidly close global groups. Assign people directly to the plants, daily production and support functions.

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Interesting process. Good people. Many different areas to work in within the company. Close to home.

    Cons

Stressful. Long hours. Hazardous chemicals. Currently for sale and FTC is blocking the sale to an American company (Tronox). Stressful.

I worked at Cristal full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits and pay are good, but the union plant is better.

    Cons

No HR knowledge by the HR person, poor treatment from management, Unsafe working conditions, unsafe amounts of overtime. Too many favorites played I. Ashtabula Plant 2 North and South.

    Advice to Management

Overall everyone at this facility that has any type of management position, from the site manager, right down to the team leads! You have a lot of corrupt people in important positions, and they make their decisions based on friends instead of the company.

    Pros

    Challenging process.

Great group of younger staff to work with.

    Benefits.

    Cons

HR holding down pay and positions of talented individuals. Saudi HR team micromanaging the world.

Collaboration has been left behind as individuals fight to elevate themselves.

    Advice to Management

Abandon the dysfunctional HR structure. Recognize and develop talent.

I worked at Cristal full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits are excellent, and all the people are very friendly and pleasant to be around. The location is central as well. Great place to work if you are offered a salary you are content with earning for the rest of your career and don't like working too hard. Many people come in at 6, take an hour lunch, and leave at 2. You won't find hours like that anywhere else!

    Cons

This review is for the research center in Glen Burnie, MD.

This place is a complete mess. If you are reading this, you are probably a current employee looking for a good laugh, since it is highly unlikely they are hiring anyone. Basically, the fate of this place was sealed when they shut down the local Baltimore plant. There is barely enough work to go around, and some people have resorted to entertaining themselves by sending out weekly emails about their switching offices. That is until this place lost internet...FOR THREE MONTHS!

The company has recently been acquired by a competitor and it is highly likely that this location is going to be shut down. Which is a shame since there are a lot of smart people that work here. But at the end of the day it is not research, but GOOD research, that helps a company be successful, and there is none of that going on here.

Raises and bonuses are small or absent altogether.

    Advice to Management

Stop taking on projects that appear to have huge payouts but are highly unlikely to succeed. Also, scrap projects that don't show results in 1-2 years and try to solve problems the company is currently having.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

good people to work with... great benefits...good work life balance

    Cons

tronox take over leaves people wondering if tronox will get rid of any of there people in this take over. They say they will look at both side but we all think that is a lie. time will tell...

    Advice to Management

Just be fair about the process and job elimination. Just because someone has been there for 30 years doesnt mean they are good at their jobs. Tronox is a very small company and they have no clue for what they are getting into. and the size of Cristal.

    Pros

    Hard to do less work.
    Flexible hours.
Great benefits relative to what you have to put in.

    Cons

There is almost zero fulfillment other than a paycheck.
The most valuable technical staff are leaving en masse placing more and more administrative and mundane work on fewer and fewer folks.

Even a good plan wouldn't be this effective at stripping the company of staff without resorting to layoffs.

    Advice to Management

    Do something? ANYTHING.
