I have been working at Cristal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A large number of employees that want to safely make money. Many still want this good job. Hoping Tronox will fix things here.

    Cons

Cohort of Cristal management has lost touch with reality in the plants. Every day is a struggle to justify what would be common sense in other plants. Good people quitting because of this. Only those that are trapped remain.

    Advice to Management

If you are shown a power point or fancy program doubt it. Likely a fabrication or based on faulty information. The bigger the savings promised the more it should be doubted.

I worked at Cristal full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits are excellent, and all the people are very friendly and pleasant to be around. The location is central as well. Great place to work if you are offered a salary you are content with earning for the rest of your career and don't like working too hard. Many people come in at 6, take an hour lunch, and leave at 2. You won't find hours like that anywhere else!

    Cons

This review is for the research center in Glen Burnie, MD.

This place is a complete mess. If you are reading this, you are probably a current employee looking for a good laugh, since it is highly unlikely they are hiring anyone. Basically, the fate of this place was sealed when they shut down the local Baltimore plant. There is barely enough work to go around, and some people have resorted to entertaining themselves by sending out weekly emails about their switching offices. That is until this place lost internet...FOR THREE MONTHS!

The company has recently been acquired by a competitor and it is highly likely that this location is going to be shut down. Which is a shame since there are a lot of smart people that work here. But at the end of the day it is not research, but GOOD research, that helps a company be successful, and there is none of that going on here.

Raises and bonuses are small or absent altogether.

    Advice to Management

Stop taking on projects that appear to have huge payouts but are highly unlikely to succeed. Also, scrap projects that don't show results in 1-2 years and try to solve problems the company is currently having.

I worked at Cristal full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great Benefits, Good Pay, Pension

    Cons

After a merger with another company, the once good company has now gone down hill.

    Advice to Management

It doesn't matter. They will not listen anyway.

I have been working at Cristal full-time

    Pros

good people to work with... great benefits...good work life balance

    Cons

tronox take over leaves people wondering if tronox will get rid of any of there people in this take over. They say they will look at both side but we all think that is a lie. time will tell...

    Advice to Management

Just be fair about the process and job elimination. Just because someone has been there for 30 years doesnt mean they are good at their jobs. Tronox is a very small company and they have no clue for what they are getting into. and the size of Cristal.

I have been working at Cristal full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Hard to do less work.
    Flexible hours.
Great benefits relative to what you have to put in.

    Cons

There is almost zero fulfillment other than a paycheck.
The most valuable technical staff are leaving en masse placing more and more administrative and mundane work on fewer and fewer folks.

Even a good plan wouldn't be this effective at stripping the company of staff without resorting to layoffs.

    Advice to Management

    Do something? ANYTHING.

    Pros

There used to be many positives, these no longer exist.

    Cons

So many unknowns that the morale has tanked. The management team does not know what they are doing, there are a handful that have the experience to do the job. This has created trust issues, backstabbing and game playing.

    Advice to Management

    It is too far gone

I have been working at Cristal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good people who know the business and their patience (hopefully) will pay off.
Local-Regional HR & Management is trying but Saudi management is really hurting the business now by micro managing
Merger with Tronox may help if anyone is around for it.

    Cons

Tasnee in Saudi Arabia really has no idea how to run a global company and will not let the business run.
A culture of "No" only made worse as the announcement with Tronox, Tasnee doe does not want to spend a dime or make any changes...another year under the thumb of the Saudi's.

    Advice to Management

Let the Regions run as they should and you may salvage this sale.
Put a retention plan in place now for key talent or they will not be around for the Tronox acquisition.
