I worked at Cristal full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Decent co-workers Interesting process and good training for young engineers Very laid back working hours Good health insurance

    Cons

Forced ranking - better be a political all star since your rank is very dependent on who you know rather than actual skill Incompetent management - "Locals" are more often tapped to be managers, upper management fraught with indecision, in-fighting, and generally clue-less On call - Engineers are on call, expect multiple calls in the middle of the night to handle operations issues since operators are never held...

    Advice to Management

Ditch the Saudis, hire people from decent schools, pay people what they are worth. Just because someone is a local who has been there a long time doesn't make them the next leader.

I have been working at Cristal full-time

      Pros

Great Pay, nice location, workers are friendly.

      Cons

They need management to listen to their employees and seek out resolutions that help bring their employees together not tear them apart from management.

      Pros

Smart people, good insurance and benefits Good safety and PSM program A lot of opportunities to learn Managers don’t micromanage

      Cons

Low salary after tasnee took over. Lower than ANY competing company in the area. Too much Friendship and favoritism. Being on call several weeks of a year. Plant operations is chaos and unpredictable. Too much work and not enough people.

      Advice to Management

      Pros

A lot of talented individuals at the Ashtabula complex. Interesting manufacturing process with daily challenges.

      Cons

I have been working at Cristal full-time for more than 20 years

      Pros

Some of the most wonderful people to work with around the globe, very little politics, and great coffee. Great benefits. Regional management tries hard to keep morale up.

      Cons

Soul tearing restructure/layoff by Tasnee (Saudi parent) in 2016, followed by office closing and forced relocation to Glen Burnie (take it or leave). But wait, there's more! Buyout attempt by Tronox in 2017 so Tasnee decided to stop investing, then the FTC decided it's a terrible idea to make an oligopoly industry even smaller, Tronox sues but God knows where that's headed after a year of complete uncertainty with more...

      Advice to Management

Maximize Cristal's value through investing in plants and her people. The sale isn't done until it's done.

      Pros

Good pay and benefits. Interesting process. Good people. Many different areas to work in within the company. Close to home.

      Cons

Stressful. Long hours. Hazardous chemicals. Currently for sale and FTC is blocking the sale to an American company (Tronox). Stressful.

I worked at Cristal full-time for more than 20 years

      Pros

Benefits and pay are good, but the union plant is better.

      Cons

No HR knowledge by the HR person, poor treatment from management, Unsafe working conditions, unsafe amounts of overtime. Too many favorites played I. Ashtabula Plant 2 North and South.

      Advice to Management

Overall everyone at this facility that has any type of management position, from the site manager, right down to the team leads! You have a lot of corrupt people in important positions, and they make their decisions based on friends instead of the company.
