I have been working at Cross Country Education full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Cross Country Education is a company that has great people and a great atmosphere. Managers genuinely care about their employees and there is always open communication between employees and management.

There is a lot of cross-training which can help build your skill sets in case you ever decided to leave. Everyone here is eager to help one another and the best part of my job is working with my coworkers and our leadership team. We are always laughing and making jokes and I enjoy coming into work every day.

Here we have golf tournaments, potlucks, ice cream truck visits, and other company events that make you appreciate your job. Also, every other Friday a massage therapist comes into the office and you can use your break to get a massage.

    Cons

Our former parent company, Cross Country Healthcare, made really bad decisions that negatively affected our company, but now that we're owned by PESI, INC. things have returned back to normal and everyone is breathing a sigh of relief.

    Advice to Management

    Continue to grow your employees!

I worked at Cross Country Education full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

People can be great. Fun in-office putt-putt tournament once a year and other team building activities throughout the year. Let out early on holiday weekends. Benefits start right away.

    Cons

There's no room for growth unless someone leaves or is let go...which has been happening a lot. The company is trying to grow and try new things, but rather than hiring additional employees to take on the new tasks, simply piles more work onto the already over-burdened staff without any additional compensation. In fact, many people are so stressed out, burned out, and beaten down that they've started taking anti-anxiety meds and working long hours off the clock in order to get their work done. The cliques among coworkers can be great when you're on the inside, but when you're outside everything is 10 times worse.

In an effort to stay afloat, the company keeps slashing prices, over-working the employees who haven't left or been fired, and sacrificing quality in the name of saving a buck and trying to raise profits that never actually reach the employees. Sadly, it's a race to the bottom. If people didn't need CE, CCE would have been sunk many times over by now.

    Advice to Management

Take a good look at your employees and evaluate whether they have too much on their plates. HR incentives are not enough. Acknowledge your staff for their hard work, even if just one-on-one; and especially with bonuses and raises. Without acknowledgment, the only incentive is to do a good job for themselves...and that only goes so far under so much weight.

    Pros

This is a small company that has fortunately stayed true its initial roots. There are several employees who have been with the company for +10 years, which speaks volumes about the company overall. While there have been some struggles over the years, especially over the past 1-2 years, the issues have not been centered about the company locally, but rather with the corporate entity that purchased the company over 10 years ago, thus changing a lot of practices that worked. Those who have spoken negatively of the company do/did so out of frustration and an obvious lack of understanding of what the corporate office mandated of the local management team, why those mandates were put into place, or other expectations of management during the tumultuous time. Those who were let go were not let go in a light manner, but with great heartache on the part of management. This company truly cares about its employees, tries to do what’s right in every sense of the word, and is nothing short of supportive.

    Cons

There is limited room for growth, but that’s no different than other companies of the same or similar size.

    Advice to Management

Be as open as possible with employees regarding major changes. While it’s not the business of everyone to know every little detail that goes on at the management level, it’s nice for employees to have a sense that they’re not being left in the dark, even if they’re not actually being left out of anything. It’s about perception, and those that don’t understand this will make a mountain out of a molehill.

    Pros

Great co-workers in the trenches who take pride in their jobs. Competent and kind employees from mid-management down.

    Cons

Lower level employees are grossly underpaid and undervalued, and annual increases average only 2%. Miniscule room for advancement. Basic tools to do one's job with ease are not provided, unless you are a favorite of upper management or are outspoken and the proverbial squeaky wheel. The "men" in upper management do not follow through with their promises. Jobs here are being lost to outsourcing. Since the new CEO of Cross Co Healthcare took over a couple years ago the culture and values have declined and many hardworking, dedicated people were deceived and have lost their livelihoods - employees and longstanding vendors, alike.

    Advice to Management

If downsizing & consolidation is a mandate from corporate, just be upfront with employees and stop being deceitful, secretive, and shady about it. People deserve to know in advance what is happening to their jobs. Families deserve to prepare accordingly. The treatment of those getting laid off is cruel. Have enough decency to treat employees as you would your spouse or adult children. Stop being deceitful about the future of the company. What goes around, comes around. Never forget where you came from.

I have been working at Cross Country Education full-time

    Pros

Management is usually lenient with giving you time off if needed for appointments, etc; a massage therapist comes in every other Friday for $15 for 20 mins; can zone out and float through your job bc they don't try anything new or challenge employees professionally (could be a pro if that's your work style)

    Cons

Small company (about 50) where people are dropping like flies. 5 people resigned and 4 were let go within the last 2 years. The company has not been doing very well financially, so reorganizing is needed...probably why people are being let go. Very dated practices and project management systems. Everyone could probably do their jobs virtually, but this place is not with it enough to have the proper equipment or procedures in place. Management is hands-off to a fault. There is a distinct Us vs. Them vibe in the air here and communication is nonexistent. No professional growth or development opportunities here. If changes aren't made and new ideas and procedures put in place that catch us up with the times, I don't know that this company has a future.

    Advice to Management

Communicate and ask for ideas. We can't just keep plugging away year after year and expect growth.

    Pros

Time off for holidays is good

    Cons

The company has no structure, the HR dept is a joke lacking skill and professionalism. Company bonuses are only for managers which is quite hefty while the workers get nothing. No room for growth with this company unless you are going behind closed doors with upper mgmt members.....
