Easy, for all the wrong reasons. 90% junior developers. Poor Leadership.

      Apr 6, 2021 - Senior Developer

      Business Outlook

      Pros

You can have an easy life here; for some developers that's perfect. For those that want to build software, it's boring, frustrating, and disheartening.

      Cons

The technology division (product engineers and management) is a cluster of miscommunication, lack of direction, lack of resources, and poor planning; among other things. The overwhelming theme is a lack of experience, from the low-level developers to the project-leads and 'architects'. - Hires: Zero consideration given to project needs when taking on new hires. The only consistent hires are out-of-college junior devs; which is usually fine, but paired with an inability to hold onto more experienced developers creates a revolving door of inexperience. - Project Management/Leadership: Project architects (and managers) have an incredible lack of knowledge on how things are suppose to be done from a basic level of software development. The most in-depth 'architecture plan' I've seen produced for any of the several projects I've been a part of have amounted to draft-level Visio drawings. Oddly, any attempt to go against the grain and think things through is met with a shrug. - Advancement: There are a few '10x' developers that have been with Crowe during my time here; never have they been properly recognized, appreciated, nor compensated. Most have left. Promotions do not include a raise; your annual review is the same 'evaluation' and small salary adjustment year over year.

Not a Tech Company - Avoid Tax & Applied Technology

Apr 3, 2021 - Software Engineer in Brownsburg, IN
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Crowe as a whole may be a good company - Benefits are good - Remote work was around before Covid-19, and it's been a game changer - Great place to be micro-managed - Front row seats to watch your engineering skills **** off and die

      Cons

      - Applied Technology (AT) is filled with management that is toxic, incompetent, entirely incapable of utilizing any skilled people they acquire - Crowe is not a tech company. As an employee, know that somewhere up the chain of command is a slew of accounting and tax people ready to shoot down or vastly undercut your grand application of tech to this industry - Engineers at university, do NOT fall for their grandiose claims during recruiting. They recruit youth solely because they can drive them and pay them less. They give zero ***** about your career. There are plenty of other tech companies who will treat you the same, but at least you'll gain far more knowledge, better experience and better habits. The grind at Crowe's AT is not worth it at all. - Crowe attempts to value people, but their policies are undermined by the terrible people they have in management at AT. - Big layoffs multiple years in a row now. Their tech efforts are failing. They aren't hiring heavily because of growth but because of turnover and layoffs. They used Covid-19 as an opportunity to axe a lot of people.

      Good Company

May 23, 2021 - Financial Services Senior Consultant in Crawfordsville, IN
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

-Great Pay and Benefits -Supportive Management Team -Work From Home (minimal travel for a normally high travel position; however may change when the cervezas sickness has disappeared).

      Cons

Only con i would say so far is some times having to work on the weekend if you're slammed. Deadlines are deadlines, but i think that has more to do with client expectations which we must meet.

Lack of Clear Strategy, Frequent Organizational Changes

Apr 8, 2021 - Healthcare Consultant in Chicago, IL
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Work Life Balance: Partners do a good job of considering work life balance of team when taking on new projects. - Flexibility: Ability to work remotely as needed. - Culture: Relaxed office culture (jeans everyday) with humble people

      Cons

      - Lack of Clear Strategy: Strategic direction of healthcare practice changed frequently, and partners often contradicted one another when asked about strategy. If you are not aware of the goal, it is difficult to achieve it. - Frequent Organizational Changes: In my tenure, the organizational chart changed on average once every six months. Communication of new roles and responsibilities with the latest org chart was lacking. The current organizational chart essentially removed individual partner sales goals, which I expect to negatively impact sales growth. - Rewarding Performance: Management values compliance and those who are happy to do exactly as they say. Attempting to improve current processes or respectfully challenge the status quo is often considered insubordination. Leadership roles were given to employees that complied with management. Bonuses were incredibly low and did not fluctuate with performance. - Heavy Reliance on Dated Technology: Healthcare is heavily centered around a technology that has not been rebuilt in over ten years.

      Balance

May 21, 2021 - Tax Staff in Chicago, IL
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Balance is encouraged. I work on a great team that is very close and we have a lot of camaraderie.

      Cons

While the salary is competitive when compared to other firms, it is still low for how much work I do. That is how the industry works at the entry level though.
