I have been working at Cruise full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I've been at Cruise for 2 years and my favorite thing about the company is the culture of ownership such that even junior engineers are trusted with the responsibility of researching, defining, implementing, and maintaining a feature. At the intersection of research and productionization, ICs get a wide variety of experiences and the opportunity to grow their careers. Cruise has some great leaders in the field, who are excellent mentors for those who are just starting out and those who are more advanced. I've learned so much at Cruise and am looking forward to what I'll learn in the future.

    Cons

Cruise has experienced hyper-growth over the past 2+ years, causing a fair amount of churn in org and process conventions. Work/life balance is whatever you make of it, causing some to find it difficult to self-define boundaries (especially with WFH due to shelter in place in recent months).

I have been working at Cruise full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I have been at Cruise for about a year and a half. Cruise is on the cutting edge of revolutionary technology and being a part of that is really cool. In general, Cruise is still has a pretty flat organizational structure, despite being near 2,000 FTEs now. Cruise provides opportunities for advancement and promotion and doesn't seem to hold people back based on a "bell curve". I also think Cruise has a very fair compensation package, particularly given the future potential of equity growth. Overall I would definitely recommend Cruise to others.

    Cons

Cruise claims commitment to DEI, but I see very few meaningful actions. Everyone is welcome at Cruise, but I wouldn't call them a pioneer in the space. Management has struggles defining long term goals and direction. I understand this is partially due to the nature of the R&D of a product that has never before existed, but it does create some frustration when trying to align your own work with the company's goals.
