I worked at Crump Life Insurance Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay and location were nice. That really was it. There was no sense of belonging here.

    Cons

Favoritism. Lots of it. Worked harder than my coworker who had been there for 8 years who barely worked or showed up. Lots of micromanaging and stress put on employees. Barely any training. Supervisors would get mad if you asked questions or needed them to deal with a client directly. Strict attendance policy that only applied to "newbies". No room for growth.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with respect. Listen to them. Don't micromanage.

I worked at Crump Life Insurance Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Benefits
    People
    Teamwork
    Time off!
    Sick time
Time off for marriage, adoption, new baby, divorce, family member sickness
    Not being unemployed

    Cons

    A lot of work
    System issues, freezing
    No structure
    High turnover
    Pay does not fit duties
    Unorganized work flow
    Lack of training
Celebrations, picnics and associate appreciation are always a pot-luck style
Tons of emails from management/company, inbox is too overwhelmed with case work to read company communications
Disconnect from managers to case managers
Phones + Coverage work + fax box + various sources for status updates
    Application reviews for various companies
Unreasonable expectations not to take in to account daily responsibilities of the job.
Overall too many aspects of one position that no process or duty is streamlined. Very messy day to day operation for a case manager with very little management support.

    Advice to Management

Take some time to sit with you case managers, see their daily struggles and actually do something about them. Possibly delegate smaller tasks to an assistant or even take those smaller Tasks and DO THEM!
Focus on standardization, the position duties should have some limitations.
Possibly consider salary and HIGHER salary at that so that case managers can stay to do their work without the concern of using too much overtime.
Treat your employees with catered lunch from the company not potluck. People want to feel appreciated and to constantly report great earning but cannot invest in an official lunch for your employees does not feel like they are appreciated.

    Pros

Growing business. Good benefits as part of parent company, BB&T. Flexible work hours for many areas. Professional environment. Nice culture. Not overly political.

    Cons

Constant change in both industry and company and not clear direction as leadership is dispersed and disconnected and hard to pin down.

    Advice to Management

Recognize employee contributions and create more career path opportunities

    Pros

Great health insurance, time off, nice downtown location, nice co-workers. The job is interesting, and plenty of work to do as the time flies by quickly

    Cons

The annual raises are very dismal they have a pot of "raise monies" they must distribute amongst the team. It's a VERY small pot. Getting a bonus can be challenging, since the odds are stacked against you. You could have 10 stellar reviews, and one agent who gives you a poor review is weighted as 10 negative reviews. It's impossible to get a decent bonus based on agent reviews. There is too much work, and not enough case manages, which causes case managers to stress out and quit, leaving the remaining case managers to take on even more of the work load. It take a good year on the job to know all the in's and outs, and feel confident in doing your job. Too long for newbys to get a decent case load, then someone else quits due to the stress level.

    Advice to Management

Quit telling all the agent's their VIP's, EVERYONE can't be a VIP. The squeaky agent gets the grease and they all know it, so they ALL squeak, and squawk! We have too many calls, 2 phone lines and one person manning the phone. Get a call center so case managers can do their job. The expectations set for returning calls and emails is ridiculous, I'd like to see you try it, and do all your case reviews, last touches, and emails! HA HA

    Pros

Great culture and benefits and the pay is competitive. The managers care and spend time teaching and helping employees do their best. A high priority is put on employee relations and workplace unity.

    Cons

The volume of work can be overwhelming at times, and the work is repetitive. The employee must be persistent and able to keep pushing for resolution. The client may not be easy to satisfy and this can be frustrating for person in the case manager role.

    Advice to Management

Management should ensure staff is sufficient to handle the volume of work and seek to find a way to cover for people who are out without stressing the people who are on the job. Management could also strive to create better relations with the client - the insurance agents - in order to foster better relations between agents and workers.
