I worked at Crystal Springs Resort (NJ) part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I worked at Ballyowen for about 8 years during high school and college. The environment was great, and a nice balance of work and fun plus the tips as a cart attendant are great for teens and young adults

    Cons

The owners could definitely put more money into the course and replace some poor purchases and make the environment more aesthetically pleasing, The driving range is a tough layout

    Advice to Management

The managers at Ballyowen, Black Bear, Crystal Springs, and Wild Turkey are some great people that know what they are doing when it comes to running a golf course. The have good relationships with their workers and the environment becomes a pretty tight knit group

I have been working at Crystal Springs Resort (NJ) part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are fun people to work with and if you enjoy the sport of golf plenty of fun to be had.

    Cons

The pay is painful, no direction/trust given by management, scheduling seems to be random, absolutely no chance to advance.

    Advice to Management

I get it's family owned but the lack of trust between all employees makes working feel like having a political debate at Thanksgiving dinner.

I worked at Crystal Springs Resort (NJ) full-time

    Pros

Beautiful property, it's nice to come to work each day and see the scenery.

    Cons

Management needs to change their attitude regarding their employees. Employees are treated like cattle and with little care about their working conditions, morale and work/life balance. Most departments are understaffed and customers suffer.

    Advice to Management

Get out of your office and pay attention to your workers, show them support and put the right number of employees on the shift.

I have been working at Crystal Springs Resort (NJ) full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is always work. But only because they are so unorganized and understaffed. Most of the co-workers are pleasant and friendly.

    Cons

The upper management is horrible. Not very knowledgeable in the areas they need to be. Some are very rude and talk down to you. No matter how hard you work and go out of your way for the company, they never acknowledge you or even a simple thank you. Underpaid, and no matter how good of a review they give you, don't count on getting a raise. And if they don't like you, they will lie and create a reason to try to fire you. And don't count on HR to help you. That department is even more incompetent and has no idea about the laws of employment. So bottom line is, if you are looking to work in a stressed out, manipulative, management talking bad about you to other employees etc... environment then this job is for you. But make sure to keep your lawyer on speed dial. At least for the immediate moment. But check back very soon. I'm sure there will be some big changes.

    Advice to Management

My advice is to start showing appreciation for your employees who work harder then you ever have. And open your eyes to who the good people really are and who the bad ones really are. This is why you have a big turn over and everyone quits. But of course there has to be changes made in management before you can start to improve that place.

    Pros

The work is manageable and even enjoyable and every day is an opportunity to try to provide a unique peaceful retreat for those seeking a peaceful haven in the beautiful mountains of Northern New Jersey.

    Cons

All effort by inexperienced management who have somehow managed to become managers although they have no experience in the hospitality industry other than working their way up from starting positions is to micromanage and bait employees with commissions and incentives based on subjective not objective criteria - none of which relate to the actual guest experience.

    Advice to Management

The vision of what the resorts should be and could be is there - but the hospitality requires skill and extra effort. No resort will thrive if your staff who deals directly with guests feel ignored, stressed and penny pinched.

I have been working at Crystal Springs Resort (NJ) (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Beautiful views. Great peers and colleagues. Some of us actually support each other.

    Cons

Owners and management are totally horrible. They rule by scare tactics and intimidation. There is absolutely no appreciation for hard working staff. What customers don't see, they don't want to see. I'd seriously reconsider having any event here.

    Advice to Management

You all need training in staff appreciation, maintenance and cleanliness. There is no communication or bona fide leadership. ..make the money and run attitude. I'm certain you are all Trump supporters.
