I have been working at Cummings Properties full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Open and collaborative atmosphere--everyone's opinions are encouraged and considered. Supportive colleagues and a management team that wants to help you succeed. Lots of career opportunity for people who express interest in new responsibilities. Affiliated foundation supports local charities--feels good to be part of that. Very stable company. Free lunch!

    Cons

Fairly traditional work environment with hours of 8 am - 6 pm. Not a good fit for people who are interested in flexible hours or telecommuting.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

    Pros

Well-established company. Decent benefits package including free lunch for upper level / salaried employees (not me). You have a job. You'll learn what kind of environment you don't want to work in if you're fresh out of college. Your writing skills will improve... or maybe just change.

    Cons

Outdated everything- "Office Space" / "just shut up and do your job" corporate culture. Discouraging employees from seeing one another outside work. Grammarly Anal - If you start a sentence with the word "however," be prepared for a whoopin'. Technology is atrociously behind - the 80-something year old founder doesn't trust voicemail, so if you let a coworker's phone go to VM, be prepared for a whoopin'. HE DOESN'T TRUST VOICEMAIL... WTF! Upper management is extremely intelligent, but they do everything the founder says without question, not realizing that he doesn't realize the business world has changed since the 80's. This is their greatest fault and will ultimately be their downfall. Finally, I felt evil working there because of how they treated small businesses renting from them.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Get with the times. Get better technology. Trust your employees to do their jobs.

    Pros

    Free lunch and free parking.

    Cons

Micromanagement. Promoting people who are not qualified for the job but liked by Bill or Dennis. The also disrespect longtime, loyal employees.

    Advice to Management

    They won't listen any way.

I worked at Cummings Properties full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Free lunch...and that's about it.

    Cons

The culture was a complete lack of respect for everyone. Salaried employees were required to punch a clock, and get lunches outside of the office preapproved by management. Any emails that were sent (internal OR external) had to be drafted and preapproved by management. More often than not, employee emails went through several drafts. (seriously...) During a meeting, a C-level manager actually said that he "doesn't bring personal items" into his office because everyone "SHOULD fear their employment is on the chopping block at all times." This was the culture that was cultivated. At one point, the company hired a social media person to draft reviews on various networks. All of her reviews had to be "anonymous" but were required to be at least 4 paragraphs long (and, again, were reviewed by upper upper management...including Bill Cummings). She was eventually fired for pointing out that actual/believable posts on Yelp aren't pages long and outrageously positive.
