I have been working at Cummins full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Learning IT in Manufacturing can be very challenging but I find it very interesting and the challenges drive me.

    Cons

Slow growth within the company for employees that work at the plants. If you're not in Columbus then its almost impossible to grow as fast as you want to. Managers can do better

I have been working at Cummins for less than a year

    Pros

    - Moving between teams, learning new things & growth are highly encouraged - Strong push towards giving back to community - Depends on team and manager, but mostly relaxed work load - Great work-life balance, rarely work to take home

    Cons

    - For those starting careers, they could probably take on more load (but you get as much work as you ask for)

I have been working at Cummins full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

When teams allow, space is available for collaboration. There is a healthcare facility near the corporate headquarters. The company offers benefits from day one of employment.

      Cons

People are pushed into managing when they may not be manager material. Not all teams allow collaboration, even within the teams. Reverse discrimination is everywhere. It's acceptable to hire 10 contractors who work remotely offshore on a team, but the same manager will not allow one employee to work remotely. Pay is not competitive for non-engineer roles.

      Advice to Management

The vision and mission statements seem to only apply to upper management. Upper management - please ensure lower level managers are capable of managing people and can abide by the core values. In many areas, it seems as if they are managing their groups as if they are their own business, not the business of Cummins.

I worked at Cummins full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Cummins has good benefits. IT transformation has started so the company is starting to move more toward common solutions (but has a long way to go). The benefits and salary are pretty good. Work/life balance is very good.

      Cons

Innovation is one of Cummins' core values, but no real innovation is happening in the IT function. IT and software applications are 10 years behind many other companies. The company announces layoffs about every three years. The business, especially in the manufacturing function, seems to have low regard for the IT function.

      Advice to Management

Cummins needs to invest in IT over and above industry peers just to catch up with peers. Improve talent management strategy so that hiring cycles are less extreme.

      No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Cummins full-time

      Pros

Good work life balance. Ability to occasionally work from home depending on your function. Ability to move globally. Great volunteering opportunities

      Cons

Sub-par salary compared to competitors. Bad leadership. Unrealistic sales forecast lead to annual layoffs. No stability in the company, Power Generation has always been the worst Business Unit. Lack of diversity, lots of talk about diversity but the numbers don't reflect that. Always a re-organization going on so your job is at risk. "Minnesota nice" is prevalent at Power Generation.

      Advice to Management

Reshuffling the same leaders to different positions within the Business instead of firing them won't fix any problem.

I have been working at Cummins full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

A Lot of jobs. Great compensation, especially for the work-living location. A fairly decent atmosphere, appropriate for the manufacturing industry. Great values inside the work place, as well as company-wide. Employees are shown appreciation through compensation, benefits and general recognition

      Cons

Recruiting and talent management seems to be poor on the IT side of things. We certainly have a lot of good, home grown talent. But there are many cases of people moving up and around that should improve their performance before elevating and/or migrating.

I have been working at Cummins

      Pros

Very good structured company to start working with. Awesome people great insight in business.

      Cons

Slow working environment, lots of approval and processes to follow, the company is going through excersise of standardizing IT operating procedures.

      Advice to Management

Great going in part of management, the hiring processes and interviews could be better. Candidates from College Fairs are not given clear picture of job responsibilities before hand.
