I have been working at Cummins full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great work environment, Diversity and work ethics makes it a great place to work.

    Cons

Need more calculation before hiring. Company has history of hiring and then fire people when they suffer setbacks.

    Advice to Management

Have a reward program will definitely help. Employees have suffered the tension of laying off if the company is facing setbacks, need to work on it.

I worked at Cummins full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ok benefits except the HSA screws employees over. Decent pay.

    Cons

Long work hours with management not setting the example. Work life balance is preached there, but when you actually take time off they make it like its a punishment and make you feel bad about it. Management reprimands unreasonably, and aggressively to the entrie work group. Management is unprofessional in that aspect. They are disrespectful and treat the hourly employees just as that, like they need to bend over backwards for a management that thinks you're disposable. HR says they care ans you can voice your opinions but when management finds out you did they persecute you for speaking up.

    Advice to Management

Get new management, treat employees better. Care about employees. Be more proactive for the employees. Better raises, less back breaking hours. Dont allow management to belittle them for taking time off. Actully have work life balance.

I worked at Cummins full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Corporate Headquarters is in Columbus, which is a very friendly city to raise a family. The workweek is generally 40-45 hours for salaried and the benefits package is decent for the area. Cummins would make a good "starter" job to learn the automotive industry.

    Cons

Pay lags the industry and there is no real way for advancement or promotion within grade. Forced ranking is still used (officially gone, however enforced by HR) and feeds the layoff cycle that occurs every 3-4 years. If you are in the wrong group at the wrong time, this can be an issue.

    Advice to Management

Make an effort to realistically forecast workload to eliminate the hire-fire layoff cycles.
