Solid prospects for the future but culture is evolving

      Pros

      - Big company with opportunities to grow - Focus on growth ensures long term prospects - Great people to work with

      Cons

      - The company has evolved from a small town organization to a global one but struggles to reconcile with it's new identity. They are beholden to Wall St but refuse to admit their position, so their actions and their comments don't always align, especially of late. - Pay and benefits are not exemplary and it's by design

Great Company for Engineers Starting their Careers

Mar 21, 2020 - Technical Advisor in Columbus, IN

      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Established company well known in their segment and actively trying to expand into new segments. For graduate engineers there are many diverse roles and ample opportunity to move around within the company to develop multiple experiences. Engineers have the opportunity for hands-on work and are allowed to take on roles providing visibility to upper management. Chance to work with leading edge technologies while delivering traditional heavy industry products....opportunity to work in multiple product segments (personal use, on vs off highway, power generation etc). The company actively promotes a diverse work force. Pay and benefits are reasonable considering the geographic location.

      Cons

      > Being a small town company with multiple generations working there, nepotism is an issue (although has improved over the years). Common to see young inexperienced managers who happen to be 2nd or 3rd generation employees > Do not value experience especially if gained outside of the company > HR is somewhat dysfunctional - focus within the dept is more on being "global" and providing assignments to HR specialists from outside North America than it is on serving the employees within North America > Quality sometimes suffer due to strict adherence to process in some areas. Rather than tailor or revise processes folks tend to do work-arounds to meet schedule. > 401K match is not competitive, but is offset by a separate cash value pension and profit sharing some years.

Avoid if you're looking for a nice, stable job

      Pros

They promote community service to their employees.

      Cons

Pay - any other location besides Columbus - ask why pay is so much higher in this small town when HR talks about national studies to determine pay because the pay is low everywhere else. Nepotism - people are hired here because family and friends get them hired. This keeps the long-term unemployed in this condition even longer. This is not only encouraged, but set as a standard. Good ole boy networking - no need to say anything else. Work - this company runs on a skeleton crew all the time. This means you work your butt off every single day. Sometimes getting no breaks. Granted, staying busy is ideal, but not busy with five different work loads because they squeeze the budget and don't hire. Unrealistic metric expectations. High deductible plan - expensive to pay for medical care. Avoid unless you're an intern and need the experience. You won't have to go through the layoffs that the other reviews are talking about. Save money if you do.

      Pros

      - Everyone cares about you and your growth - I always asked questions and everyone made time to answer them- even when they didn't have time - I met over 50 HR professionals and did not meet a single person I disliked - Room to really grow within the company - Great potential for full-time - Really was given a great internship experience

      Cons

      - Small town, so don't expect a heavy nightlife

      Pros

Low work pressure. Okay salaries for mechanical industry. Flexible working hours.

      Cons

Location of the headquarter is a too small town.... Nothing to do here.... incredibly small. You would never get used to it if you grow up in big cities like New York, Beijing.... You would probably like this town if you are raised and lived all the time in small cities.
