I worked at Cuny Research Foundation part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked for them part-time but it felt like full time because of the great benefits they offered. Vacation, sick time and maternity or disability leave.

    Cons

I really can't think of any. It was the best 3 years of my working career. Keep in mind i'm only 23 though.

I worked at Cuny Research Foundation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My director gave me a great deal of freedom to implement new, evidence-based practices intended to provide robust academic support to our program population of first-generation, low-income students and students with disabilities. I learned a great deal and developed many rewarding relationships with staff, students, and faculty. I was treated with a great deal of respect and given autonomy to make decisions regarding staffing, resource allocation, and programming -- all of which were key areas of importance to me.

    Cons

Nothing material. I was encouraged to develop my skills and given many opportunities for professional development.

    Pros

The paperwork was not long and redundant. Everything is straight forward. They send you to training for free. I love the ability to be creative with the kids I teach. All of my supervisors and bosses are kind, and easy-going, but also knows when to be tough.

    Cons

The parents are sometimes ignorant and believe they are always right. The kids are at times difficult to handle.

    Advice to Management

Have indepth conversations with the staff before you hire them.

I have been working at Cuny Research Foundation part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It is a very easy and fun job. I work with kids after school, mainly at risk youth. We assist with homework and studying and then they get to have fun. This program provides free lunch and snacks plus many beneficial classes such as computers, dance, etc.

    Cons

There is no room for growth and very little hours. it is an afterschool program so it only runs from 3 pm- 6 pm. There are other programs but my boss doesnt do split scheduling. Basically, I only work 11 hours a week because i have classes on some days and it prevents me from working. Also, being that the job is in the middle of the day it is hard to find another job.

    Advice to Management

    none
