I have been working at Curtin University part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Decent classroom environment
    Good unit structure
Great pay (even though rate it below what is written in the contract)
    Short hours
Great manager who is very accommodating and responsive

    Cons

A lot of preparation time (I like to attempt to deliver a good lesson!)
Class timetabling isn't great and could definitely be improved.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, need a way to get students to show up to lectures though. Teaching everything in the tutorials is tough!

I worked at Curtin University full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Generally great colleagues, and a good environment to be in on campus when there’s lots going on during semester. Plenty of food options when the food trucks are on campus.

    Cons

Constant organizational restructuring over at least the last 3 to 4 years having a negative impact on staff. On campus parking not as great as it used to be for staff. Lack of professional development.

    Advice to Management

Pay better attention to what staff have to say, work on better developing the talent that you have.

I have been working at Curtin University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Curtin is a fast growing university and has highly multicultural atmosphere.
Payment on time and fair share of superannuation.

    Cons

No job security. There has been a constant budget cut for past three years.
Student are extremely arrogant and no support from higher manager is provided for the staffs.

    Advice to Management

There not that much to be done. Reduce your fat salary and do not cut tutors and lecturer who are doing the actual job.

I worked at Curtin University (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Teaching students. Interaction with these people on an adult level. Knowing most were there because they wanted to be there. Flexibility in teaching schedule to meet my needs.

    Cons

Communication breakdown weekly when getting lesson plans. This also occurred when it came to following through with assessing students who were identified as struggling.
