Own your development to build a lasting career
Oct 9, 2019 - Associate Manager in Dallas, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
There is almost unlimited opportunity at Custom Ink for both skill building and career opportunities - the ability to 'get your feet wet' in a subject you're trying to improve on, or have past skills in - along with the being provided great guidance to build those skills into future roles is unlike any company I've worked with prior. - Great benefits - Great coworkers and culture - Focus on Team through Career Development and perks - Growing company!
Cons
With a growing company comes some growing pains: - The business has lofty goals (which is awesome!) Sometimes communication from Senior Leaders is not clear and our aggressive goals not differentiated between our targets - which can stress out Frontline team members and management unnecessarily - The business is getting better at this, however a gap is consistency -interpretation of guidelines and approaches can differ quite a bit between different teams and departments

Best Place to work
Nov 26, 2018 - Anonymous Employee in Irving, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Custom Ink 'Inkers' (or team members) are one of a kind' (or team members) are one of a kind' (or team members) are one of a kind....we work hard but play hard too. The company has been ranked in the top 100 best places to work in the DFW area since opening its doors in 2014. They encourage everyone to have a growth mindset, to work hard and do what is right by each other and by our customers. I love every part of working for Custom Ink. The atmosphere and feeling you get when you come to work is awesome. Plus who doesn't love free food!
Cons
It's hard to find great people....more people should apply at Custom Ink - you won't regret it.
Thank you for taking the time to write this review. Being on the Dallas Top 100 list is an honor, but it’s also a reflection of the awesome team we have in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. As a company, our Core Values (Golden Rule, Ownership, and Innovation) are at the heart of everything we do–from the people we hire, to the way we treat our customers, to everything in between. So it’s no surprise that Inkers are the reason Custom Ink is ranked a great place to work. We’re growing in Dallas! Interested in joining our team? Visit www.customink.com/jobs.

Great Atmosphere
Oct 11, 2022 - Fundraising Coordinator in Dallas, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Custom Ink was built on the principles of community and therefore places a ton of value on its customers and employees; treating all like family. Senior leadership is intentional about gathering feedback from everyone and then letting that guide its decisions. This was prevalent during and now post-pandemic as they reevaluate its work environment and processes; embracing a work from home culture and methodology. I've never been a part of a company that embraces diversity and celebrates individuality like Custom Ink. They allow for mistakes, feedback, growth, ownership, and development both personally and as a team. Great benefits, relaxed dress code, a lot of personal time off.
Cons
With the new work from home structure, there are now more opportunities for career advancement beyond your local office. However, since we are a larger company, it is difficult to know / visualize those direct career paths sometimes.

Feedback, Opportunities, and Caring
Oct 8, 2019 - Production Art Assistant Manager in Reno, NVRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Feedback is taken seriously, consistently, and provided in return to team members at all levels of the company. I've seen results from being honest, respectful, and open-minded about solutions. - Leadership cares and gives people the benefit of the doubt. - When things aren't ok, leadership takes action holding additional info sessions, gathering data, seeking feedback, and providing support. - Custom Ink cares about the outcome of every package and every Inker - Seeking challenge is rewarded, if you want to develop a skill related to the business it's just about finding the time to make it happen. - Inkers are held to clear expectations for your, and your team's performance and incentivized with projects and a quarterly bonus to go above and beyond. I like that high performance is directly rewarded monetarily. - Transparency into business decisions and health is provided at least on a monthly basis, more when there is significant change. - The president, Nick, is passionate about connecting with team members at all levels and hearing what Inkers have to say. - The CEO and co-founder, Marc, is deeply concerned with the team and the company's future, making Custom Ink a place to build long-term career. - Interests outside of work are seen as strengths, for example if a team member wants to improve their video editing skills we have multiple presentations throughout the year that feature videos of leadership where those skills can be put to use. - Pathing is positive - you aren't limited to one role or one team. If you see a future for yourself with a different department leadership will work with you to develop or hone the skills you need to qualify for other opportunities. - Health Insurance is very affordable for Inkers, and covers procedures that aren't always universal including preventative care and gender confirmation surgery. - Communication is frequent, and Custom Ink has a fairly high rate of change with new technology, adjustments to guidelines, and piloting opportunities. - Collaboration is a strength, inkers work together across departments and roles to meet customer needs and support the team. - Leaders create a place where it is safe to say things like "I'm burned out, I need a break - what can I do?" without fear of consequence. They also work to find solutions together. - When there are successes recognition can come in many forms; an email, personal note, announcement in a meeting or to the entire team. Overall this company is an excellent fit for folks ready to work smart, put their skills to use, and seek challenge in their work. If you struggle to work in teams or provide/receive compassionate, constructive feedback, this may not be a good fit for you.
Cons
- The high rate of change can be fatiguing. Honesty about work/life balance and how you are doing in the role is essential to making sure you don't burn out. - Health care coverage for dependents of Inkers is pricey, if I had kids it might be a tough squeeze. It is more affordable than other jobs I've worked previously. - Custom Ink measures a lot of different things to determine compensation and other opportunities. Sometimes I love this, because it shows quantitatively how I'm doing. Sometimes my soft quality strengths are not easy to measure. Leadership is aware of this tendency and works to see each situation fairly.

Pros
I have enjoyed every single moment of working at Custom Ink. The company takes its core values into consideration during the hiring process, which creates a strong team with personalities that vary but mesh well together. I've never been in a similar work environment. Working in sales, there is a direct reflection of how hard you work to how much you're paid because there is a commission 'bonus' based on your performance, but the base salary is high enough that you can earn a living even doing the bare minimum. However, the culture of Custom Ink drives a growth mindset unparalleled by any company I've worked at or researched, so very few employees perform at the bare minimum. There are ample opportunities for professional development and growth, nothing like I've ever seen before. The company doesn't just set you up for success within the company (while that is the goal) but it helps to develop long-term goals and skills that can benefit you throughout your career. I have always felt taken care of as an individual within the company. I have a few personal circumstances that oftentimes require special accommodation, and the company has always supported me and met my needs immediately and without judgment. Custom Ink hires genuinely good people and holds its employees to high moral and professional standards. It comes across well in employee retention and morale. When in the office, there's free food, both a stocked kitchen and regular catered meals. There are frequent fun event days. I will never forget being served blueberry pancakes for breakfast by the Vice President, and many employees look forward to 'puppy day' annually where the company's volunteer program brings in adoptable animals to play with. I'd also call-out that the company HAS a volunteer program, which really sold me on Custom Ink when I was applying for jobs. Not only does my work/life balance allow for me to volunteer, but it is also encouraged and supported by the company.
Cons
The bar has now been set too high. Nothing will ever compare.

Best Work Experience to Date

The People The Opportunity The Events! I got to work at Custom Ink in various capacities and I was always ready to tackle a new challenge. Most people who work there are incredibly capable and collaborative and it's only getting better. Obviously no organization is without its challenges, and I will say for a 20 year old company - it still had a lot of growing up to do. With that, leadership was aware and actively working to improve. Great benefits, plenty of fun activities and events to meet other people who work there, and their desire to retain people long-term is really something special (pros and cons to that). I'd HIGHLY recommend Custom Ink to any friends and, in fact, many of mine still work there.
Cons
Some misplaced (or less-experienced) leaders can be scattered throughout the org (Primarily Ops teams) but Custom Ink is actively workingperienced) leaders can be scattered throughout the org (Primarily Ops teams) but Custom Ink is actively workingperienced) leaders can be scattered throughout the org (Primarily Ops teams) but Custom Ink is actively working to skill up leaders to be more well-equipped in the new era of Custom Ink.

Pros
Custom Ink does go above and beyond to make sure employees are taken care of. They have paid leave, a reasonable schedule and everyone is willing to answer questions and address concerns.
Cons
Working weekends isn’t great. It can be quiet working with a small crew.
