Nice people (but they literally have to be)

Aug 3, 2021 - Sales Representative in Fairfax, VA

    Pros

Lax atmosphere, nice building and nice desk space Great benefits and awesome amount of paid leave to start (23 days)

    Cons

Speaking and typing kindly to your coworkers is mandatory at all times. They record everything you say/type at your computer at all times. I was taken into a meeting with my manager because I typed a word in all-caps to someone who tried to dump a call-transfer on me right after I told her that my shift was over in 5 minutes and I still had 30 minutes of work to do. The progression in the sales department (i.e. selection of management) seems arbitrary. Whoever the person in charge of the promotion likes the most will usually get the position. This leads to a bunch of non-management types in management positions.

PRODUCTION - Best for some, worst for most...

Dec 22, 2016 - Production Associate in Reno, NV

    Pros

Retirement and healthcare are what differentiate warehouse positions with competitors.

    Cons

This was a SALES company first, a very successful one at that. They decided to open production warehouses to cut out the middle man and merge into a market that has NOTHING to do with sales.... Production management is an atrocity... Turn over in both upper and lower level positions creates a revolving door of inefficiency. Lack of persistent leadership leads to lack of confidence from the higher ups, intrinsically leading to more simplified, archaic forms of quality control and benchmarks. These are production based earning institutions, meaning you meet goal and then make more money on any production post-goal. In most cases, the training you've received does not guarantee reaching just basic goal, at least not without any errors. The bottom line of this companies financial strategy creates pressure on the production floor that is surmounting. These are the lowest paid positions in the company, with the least amount of training and the most amount of expectation. In the end, these warehouses take advantage of the cities they're placed in. You have mass markets of high school graduates with a lot of retail and production backgrounds. Customink stands out because of the aforementioned benefits package and retirement, so for most of this populous, this is a great place to end up. For anyone actually trying to develop career skills and ascend in their status as an employee, this place is a sinkhole, lead by people who stuck around long enough to get promoted. The management positions in these facilities barely break 50k, you are salaried so your hours are variable, and you still have to deal with all previously mentioned backward momentum.

    Meh

Mar 30, 2017 - Sales Representative in Fairfax, VA

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Some of the best coworkers you can find and a beautiful office. Great benefits but little to no guidance on leveraging them.

    Cons

CustomInk thinks it is better than it is. Fast growth, a reputation for room to move up without the actual positions to move up, and deceptive overtime policies at time of hire are all concerns. Overtime across all operations rolls is excessive due to fluctuating business, and it feels as though they would rather burn out employees and pay new entry salaries than hire the proper numbers to keep up with busy season and retain solid employees. Many have left the company for similar positions elsewhere and receive much more appropriate compensation. It also feels as though all planning is rushed from a high level managerial standpoint and everyone in a direct supervisor role is fighting just to keep up rather then being given an appropriate workload to plan in advance and foster a better work environment.

    Great Place to Work

    Pros

This is a company that is open and honest about what we are doing and where we are going. Even when times are tough we are not wondering what our goals are or how we plan to achieve them. The benefits are very good. It is fun too with great co-workers.

    Cons

Pay is not great but the benefit out way that. I here many say they keep their job for their benefit and special perks.

Good starter job, but has growing pains

    Pros

semi-laid back atmosphere, goal driven, and flexible mostly. Does offer development resources. Great benefits and health plan.

    Cons

Has lost it's small company vibe and attitude towards it's team members in favor of typical corporate profit first attititude. Most people in management have peter principle problems and are under qualified for their position and often not held accountable.

    Great Benefits/Terrible Management

    Jun 25, 2018 - Anonymous Employee

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Great benefits and paid-time off. Catered snacks on Tuesday and lunches every Thursday. A lot of opportunity to earn performance-based bonuses and move around to different departments.

    Cons

It's a fun place to work at first, but after the first couple of years, the cons of working here start to surface. Managers seem to be selected based on their popularity instead of their competence. In sales, there are probably two managers that are actually respected and good at their jobs. Sales dept feels like high school and there isn't consistent quality across the board when it comes to other representatives. Also, they're constantly changing guidelines and our bonus/pay structure.

    Best job ever, hands down.

Dec 26, 2013 - Expert Production Artist in McLean, VA

    Pros

-The people are amazing. I have come to find a family among my coworkers and my management. When you work here, you not only get to know your desk mate, but your entire team and management. You build a support system here. I've never had such a strong one until I worked here. -The benefits are great! I have not heard a single person complain about the benefits themselves. -The opportunities for personal growth are there. As an artist at the company, we have the latest software, constant training and workshops for our growth. I think that is EXTREMELY important. -Also, getting to wear t-shirts and jeans to work is self explanatory.

    Cons

-Growing pains. We keep growing and growing and with that comes small situations that are a nuisance. -Disorganization. I have had a few instances where I have not known who to contact in HR (team development) for personal benefits questions and the like. I feel as if my emails and questions go unnoticed, not because they mean to ignore my requests, but simply that they are disorganized. -Education assistance. As a current graduate student in my field, I wish there was more education assistance, even if that meant signing a contract to stay with Customink for a certain amount of time.

    Great company

Aug 19, 2020 - Satisfaction Assurance in Dallas, TX

    Pros

Don’t feel micromanaged. Pair is fair and benefits are great!

    Cons

Hard to grow within the company. It requires taking paths such as leadership that maybe some do not want but advancement is still desired.

One of the best places I’ve worked at. I do see some negatives but overall a good company.

Aug 6, 2019 - Sales Representative in Chantilly, VA

    Pros

-You can pretty much wear what ever clothing you want. -Everyone seems happy. -Free catered food 2 times a week and 1 time a week they cater a snack also. -Free snacks through out the whole company on all levels. - You end up getting a lot of free clothing and things like that. -Benefits are great. -Really nice office and clean bathrooms.

    Cons

-Pay could be higher. It’s not low but for the amount of work you do and money you bring in base salary and commission should be improved. -Tech you work with is a little out of date but they do fix it as soon as you let them know something isn’t working. - I’ve recently heard of a couple people getting fired which is kinda worrisome because in past companies I had not seen it happen often.

    Custom Ink Response

Thank you for your review. And you’re right, who wouldn’t want to come to work in whatever clothing you want? I was excited to trade in my suit for jeans and a tshirt when I joined Custom Ink. But don’t let the flip flops fool you, we work hard for our customers and for our teammates. Another great thing about Custom Ink is we make sure we do our research and benchmark ourselves against the market and the competition. That doesn’t mean we will always provide the highest salaries, but we feel really good about the combination of our base, commission, and benefits program for our sales roles. We also review it every year to make sure we remain competitive. Unfortunately, turnover does happen. I can say that we have a great culture that provides every opportunity for our teammates to get the support and coaching they need to be successful. - Brian Miller, VP of Sales

    Good, but Not Great.

    Pros

Good benefits Flexibility to try to new roles They care a lot about employee happiness Easy hiring process People are generally very nice and have been here for a long time

    Cons

5+ years ago the benefits offered would be considered great and better than the norm Pay is not great compared to industry standard They were giving a quarterly stipend to cover inflation costs, but then gave everyone a flat rate increase which was less than the quarterly stipend and less than the inflation amount More turnover in last year People constantly changing roles and changing priorities
