I have been working at Cuyahoga Community College full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The students are great. Most really want to learn. Allowed great academic freedom.

    Cons

Some administrators are non-approachable, others are fantastic. Used to be a great place to work, but really changed since there was a change "at-the-top" on our campus.

I worked at Cuyahoga Community College (More than a year)

    Pros

I can't think of any. The only one might be the potential for tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

Watch your back. Do not socialize with anyone. I have never seen so many unprofessional, backstabbing, suppose to be intellegent, people in my life. Management holds grudges, lies and shows favoritism, along with nepotism. Deans and HR constantly throw the fact that Ohio is an "at-will employer" in your face. The HR person was downright childish in her attempts to instigate and create tension in the department. It was normal for faculty to openly insult students regarding their former high school or neighborhood. The environment is extremely toxic.

    Advice to Management

Grow up. Work on your integrity. Mandate diversity training for faculty to better relate to the student body.

    Pros

    Cons

    political strife
    very little career growth opportunities

    Advice to Management

Each campus has its own goals which may or may not allow college-wide departments to thrive.

I worked at Cuyahoga Community College full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

good benefits and pay. good work schedule with 4 days a week and three off.

    Cons

poor upper managment, takes forever to get anything done due to the fact that it is a massive bureaucracy. the work enviroment is very chaotic and hostile. the staff is very sneaky and will stab you in the back every chance they get and smile about it.
I would not recomend working for this collage in the cdl program, cant really speak for other departments within the collage but the cdl program is a massive joke. will tell you your doing well right to your face and say worse behind you back to their peers. was told it would have been 2 weeks to a month to start working and it ended up being closer to 3 months.

    Advice to Management

be more direct about expectations and work together to find a common goal rather than everyone contradicting one another.

I have been working at Cuyahoga Community College part-time

    Pros

-It's really wonderful to work with the majority of the students. Many are nervous/eager to be there and I enjoy trying to take away some of the stress for them.

    Cons

Like many have said--minimal chance of getting a full time position.
-It's all in who you work with that can make or break it for you here. Like a government job, there's WAY too many people that just are seat warmers- they show up and don't do anything but socialize/play on phone/surf the web, etc. and not do their job while others who are doing their jobs get micromanaged.
-Like most places it's politics, politics, politics
