I worked at Cuyahoga County (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Co-workers, mission and value of the agency.

    Cons

Under appreciation of staff and their efforts to the program.

I have been working at Cuyahoga County full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits, Union, Good Supervisor

    Cons

Demeaned by Magistrates and Judges, and not supported by Prosecutors. Not valued for all the hard work and sacrifices made to protect children and support families. Agency is top heavy.

    Advice to Management

Value and respect workers for their hard work. Magistrates and some Judges should treat workers as if they are professionals as they do the Attorney's because the workers are the people that are walking into dangerous situations, where their safety is compromised. Keep personal biases out of your decision making.

I have been working at Cuyahoga County full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Stable employment, decent pay, cheap healthcare. Vacation and sick time are generous. It's very difficult to be fired from a county job if you're connected, so if you've gotten in through nepotism or cronyism, you'll be golden until the next county corruption investigation.

    Cons

Favoritism and nepotism allow certain employees to slack off constantly while others pick up the slack. Rules are only applied to certain people, while others are permitted to basically do whatever they want. Chronic problems with employees on personal phone calls for an entire day, watching YouTube on their work computers, watching tv shows on their phones and the accompanying substandard work that comes from distracted people doing the bare minimum.

    Advice to Management

Hiring people who are actually qualified but don't have political connections. Don't promote well-connected people to supervisory positions after they've gotten poor performance reviews for several years. Unilaterally enforcing attendance and tardiness policies instead of only applying the policies to certain employees. Start implementing keyloggers, monitoring the employee phones and actually look at the logs from the internet filter to see exactly how little work is being done on a daily basis, because it's shameful.

I worked at Cuyahoga County full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Helping people make better decisions for their lives. Sometime people need to hear a different person opinion to change the course of their lives.

    Cons

Very unpredictable never know what the day would turn into.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attn to your staff. They need more support.

I have been working at Cuyahoga County part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working for the County provides connections and opportunities that other employers won't offer. I have a B.A. in Criminal Justice and my current position allows room for that experience to grow.

    Cons

Contract/Grant funding of positions has created concerns within the first 90 days of my hiring.

    Advice to Management

There is always room for improvement. Regardless of how positions are funded throughout the department, all persons who fill such positions should be on the same page about those cuts, firings, and any deterioration of the department that affect them directly as well as indirectly.

I worked at Cuyahoga County full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people u work with are pretty decent for the most part some are more easy to talk to then others

    Cons

HR department for some of the agencies are not helpful or knowledgeable of how things shld go and don't handle your issues correctly and will just brush you off. Will railroad you so watch out.

    Advice to Management

Get a clue and stop being so textbook and learn the actual people you work with and for if there's no workers remember despite what your told you have no job either and they'll have no need for you

I worked at Cuyahoga County full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The work was a no-brainer. The hours were easy. Holidays off were nice. When overtime was offered that helped boost the low pay.

    Cons

Very racist environment. I am white and I worked in a mostly all African-American building. Poor training experience. Lousy performance review process. No rewards or positive reinforcement. Terrible management--obviously untrained and promoted beyond their capabilities.

    Advice to Management

Use real performance review systems. Provide training from professional trainers who know how to train.

    Pros

Salary and benefits and the same.

    Cons

Extremely poor management. People are very lazy, very clickish, and behave like spoiled way overly paid children who have had things to easy for to long. If you haven't been working there for at least 10 years, or do not have family there, you do not receive equal respect. Cuyahoga County is in dire need of a shake-up. People are supposed to be working and not gossiping all day. Zero training. Zero team work.

    Advice to Management

Start caring about and paying attention to what your employees are doing. Actually do something and stop letting the employees under you do your job. Do your own job and stop blaming the employees under you, who are doing your job, when something does not go right.

I have been working at Cuyahoga County (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits program, often flexible work schedule, professional and relaxed work environment

    Cons

Not much in the way of on the job promotion, often a lack of communication (both inter-departmental and intra-departmental),

    Advice to Management

Communicate with the departments, you can't go wrong when there is open and honest communication. Take the time to know your employees. You will be surprised the level of commitment and production that comes from an employee that feels they are not just an employee number or looked upon as just FTE hours.
