Post IPO, focus became all about quarterly earnings instead of strong business decisions.

      Approves of CEO

I worked at Cyan full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Cyan had incredible leadership of smart, focused, and very transparent executives. I joined at a time prior to the Ciena acquisition and did some very cool work - we launched a new website, an updated brand, expanded communications and demand gen, and I had the opportunity to spend more time with customers than in previous roles.

      Cons

The one challenge I experienced was finding a way to really integrate into the culture. The company was about 50/50 remove vs.on-site. Some of that was my responsibility to determine where to insert myself.

      I worked at Cyan full-time

      Pros

Working with the immediate team was wonderful, they were willing to help at any point if needed. Transparent communication was useful for many years. The Technical Assistance Tier I, Tier II and Tier III were some of the best in the industry. As a sales engineer it made my job much easier in the field because the customer was happy.

      Cons

Communication from upper management diminished as time went on. With hindsight it was easy to see that a merger was in process.

      I worked at Cyan

      Pros

great pay, excellent technology and tech support

      Cons

Management failures. Integration with Ciena was very poorly communicated, many successful Salespeople & SE's were let go. Customers of the former Cyan Z-Series product have lots of reasons to worry about Ciena's lack of commitment to ongoing R&D, roadmap, and competent technical support.

      Advice to Management

Recognize that failures in leadership have occurred and take corrective action. Maintain Z-Series roadmap, strategic investments, and tech support.

I worked at Cyan full-time for more than 4 years

        Pros

great developer team who cared about what they were building. it was great to work near home as well!

        Cons

bad sales leadership, lots of big talk and big egos. really poor communication in spite of company meetings tough to get more team members because we were not near San Fran

        Advice to Management

be transparent about your goals next time you decide to flip a company and check your egos
