      Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Cylance Inc. full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

They built a brand around the possibility of prevention.

      Cons

They blew their opportunity for explosive growth by building products that couldn't compete with market leaders and that really didnt move the needle for enterprises. They had poor leadership in Engineering that cannot produce a product on time consistently.

      Advice to Management

Emotional reaction to issues is not the way to succeed. Getting rid of people who constructively challenge decisions is not the way to succeed. it was sad to see the company slide so far down and really not have a stellar exit like other companies.

      Pros

Great atmosphere, nice people, work can be rewarding

      Cons

myopic management, no advancement, heavy nepotism

      Advice to Management

Product goals should be derived from vision, which is pushed down. Product schedule should be devised by experts, which is pushed up.

I worked at Cylance Inc. full-time for more than 3 years

        Pros

Free snacks, bagels, food. Smart people to work with.

        Cons

Pay is lousy compared to industry competition. When HR was questioned about raises, told to ask managers, who said it was HRs decision. Passing the buck seems to be the norm. Skip-level sounds like a great idea, until the inevitable retaliation comes back around. 360s were abandoned because some egos couldn't handle it, that was a mistake. Engineering is understaffed and overworked by managers who neither respect or...

        Advice to Management

Really look at your values and whether people are following or not. Implement 360 reviews to get the whole picture. Stop being so top-heavy and so sales-heavy and fix your tech debt. Stop brushing off the issues and fix them or you'll lose more good people to bad management. The CEO either is complicit in all these issues or oblivious, either way it's not good. Oh well, it's all Blackberrys problem now.

I have been working at Cylance Inc. full-time for more than 5 years

        Pros

Benefits you can get from any modern tech company: unlimited PTO, modern tech stack, stocked kitchen, great location, gym.

        Cons

Engineering is run by middle management that doesn't know how to manage their team/project. There is a constant state of knee-jerk reactions and pivoting priorities. It seems like management cannot get a grasp of overall priority between all stake holders (Project Managers, Eng Managers, Upper Management) and stick to that priority. Projects are constantly being de-prioritized and re-prioritized and creates headache for...

        Advice to Management

Listen to your engineers AND take action to address their concerns. They will get burned out and leave if you don't.

I have been working at Cylance Inc. full-time for less than a year

        Pros

The growth opportunities are immense. Good for management experience Latest tech stack Good benefits Great location

        Cons

Lot of war rooms with no goals. There are a lot of requirements and architecture changes without confirming with other parties. The leadership does not listen to the lower level management; if they do, then they do not care. Lots of good engineers are pushed out due to burnout.

        Advice to Management

Listen to your teams and act accordingly. Focus on solidifying the architecture and minimize changes. The architecture team needs more focus and leadership and guidance.

I worked at Cylance Inc. full-time for more than a year

        Pros

Buzz word compliant tech: A.I., M.L., CyberSecurity, Strong and willing Engineers Strong vision

        Cons

Executive leaderships' grasp of what's actually happening Relationship vs Performance based merit Cheap (only Directors and above get business cards) Poor remote-site management Poor overall project management (feature creep, unrealistic schedules)

        Advice to Management

I worked in the Portland office, so I didn't suffer the terrible work life balance that my counterparts at HQ (Irvine) had to endure. I saw my fair share of poor engineering management, though. That and the inability to properly recognize outstanding engineers who were just quietly putting in good work are the main reasons I chose to leave. I hoped the impact would shake things up. I questioned whether this executive...
