I worked at Cymer (Less than a year)

    Pros

Interesting work. You get to work on a diverse set of projects

    Cons

The multiple levels of management is overwhelming and their doc control system is extremely bloated. They are quick to lay people off.

    Advice to Management

Develop your engineers a little better and don't out source as much

I worked at Cymer as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

    Top notch technology, cutting edge.

    Cons

They are big on using contractors and keeping them that way. Worked there 1-1/2 as one. Only when I put in two weeks notice did they make an offer, but then, too late. Some managers did not want to be managers and made that clear.

    Advice to Management

Keep an eye on the contractors and how long they've been there. Take care of them too.

I have been working at Cymer full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Smart people who love what they do.
Opportunities to socialize with like minded people.
Your work is tied to some of the biggest electronics companies in the world.
Pretty big company that doesn't feel overwhelming.

    Cons

Three years after acquisition by ASML there is still confusion about roles, competing systems and management ideas. Can make simple tasks unnecessarily complicated.
HR department is really big for a company this size and its lack of leadership impacts business performance. At times HR staff behavior borders on unethical.

    Advice to Management

Capable people leave when you refuse to deal with obvious problems.

I have been working at Cymer full-time

    Pros

Good compensation, benefits, vacation time. First-line manager is quite flexible and will work with me on work-life balance issues. Co-workers are first-rate!

    Cons

A medium-sized company with what seems to be a somewhat antiquated small-company organizational systems. Has been improving much in the last few years, but can still cause extra frustration and stress at times.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work streamlining business systems and processes! Please remember that developing a solution for a problem is only successful if a process is put in place to sustain the solution.

Vacation time, sick time, stock purchase plan. Good health bennifits. Can be interesting work. Work for rat has been steady for last 7 years.

    Cons

Training is non exsistent, no career growth. Supervision of low level is really poor. Supervisors have no idea what subordinates do or what their capabilities are. No upward mobility.

    Advice to Management

Provide real training and an opportunity for upward mobility and career change across division lines.

    Pros

They treat interns well. They took us to the beach, lunch etc.

    Cons

They use a lot of old technology and don't want to modernize. Would much rather do something else next summer.

I worked at Cymer (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Job stability for those who choose to remain
    Good benefits
    Awesome community service
Nice company match on approved donations

    Cons

Management is completely out of touch with their employees
Communication has taken a turn for the worse in the past couple of years
Morale is at an all-time low
An alarming number of long-term employees are choosing to leave the company which raises many red flags in my opinion

    Advice to Management

Adjust management style to align with company core beliefs
Fill positions as they are vacated instead of doubling the workload, for the long-term, of those who remain
