    Pros

You get to work along side top level scientist and engineers. Exciting technology that enables employees to become passionate about their work. A well established company with great management and a loyal customer base.

    Cons

Bob and Rick no longer run the company. The company transition is ill received by many. Mixed management styles within the company. Clash of two cultures creates friction.

    Advice to Management

Make more effort to become familiar with the San Diego work culture. Be more empathetic to employee work styles.

    Pros

Innovative technology, Creative People, Product with High Margins. Fast pace environment tailored to the Engineering and development community. Lots of opportunities until they move the facility everyone's roles to the Netherlands.

    Cons

Supply Organization and Leadership disorganized. People are promoted because they have been there not because they are qualified. Middle Management does not have a clue what it takes to do the job. Jobs are moving to the Netherlands because that is where ASML is.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with people about your intent to move. Let them know that their career their will be a great learning experienced even if it is short lived.

I have been working at Cymer full-time

    Pros

Free ice cream and barbeque and beer a few times a year.

    Cons

The biggest problem is leadership. CEO is an engineer but terrible with people and can't figure out how to fix problems. Many people who are director or higher have less qualifications and experience than entry level employees. The only people staying at the company are ones close to retiring who don't want to look for another job or can't get another job anywhere else.

    Advice to Management

Lead follow or get out of the way.

I have been working at Cymer full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you are male you can get away with treating female coworkers like 2nd class citizens. Some of the current employees take advantage of that.

    Cons

When I told my HR rep that someone in a vice president position was abusing and harassing his female employees, even talking about his privates, she said I should mind my own business. One person who reports to him said she reported the same things and HR told her she could find another place to work if she didn't like it. Ii would never want my wife or daughter treated this way.

    Advice to Management

You're running a company, not a frat house. Don't let male executives act liek they're in a Mad Men episode.

I worked at Cymer full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Same thing others wrote: salaries and bonuses are good because that's the only way people will work here. But money doesn't make them stay.

    Cons

    Shrinking customer base.
    Technology duplicated by ASML products.
Executives and VPS who don't work adn are waiting to retire.
    People motivated by fear.
Lack of opportunities to grow and learn.
HR department terrible and keeps nothing confidential.
    Different rules for different people.
Some of the people are nice, but wasting their time here.
Constant confusion over the relationship between Cymer and ASML.
    Rumors and gossip dominate

    Advice to Management

The good old days are over.

I have been working at Cymer full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits are good now but are changing soon. They probably won't be after that and its really the only reason to work here.

    Cons

Cymer calls itself an ASML company, but it really isn't. Recruiters will play this down but don't be fooled. Taking an engineering job with Cymer is not the same as a job with ASML. Any engineer will want to work at ASML. When you work here it's easy to see Cymer is a dying company with terrible management and worse morale.

    Advice to Management

Ice cream parties, picnics and bicycles rides don't make up for how bad you treat people.

I have been working at Cymer full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The pay and benefits are good but don't make up for everything else. Working here could ruin your career.

    Cons

If you report ethics violations your boss will know you did before you're back at your desk. Managment tells everyone that retaliation isn't tolerated. That's not true. Your boss will know and can do anything to you without repercussions. HR will not help you and will tell you you brought in on yourself.
Jim Koonmen is better than Ed Brown in some ways and worse in other ways.

    Advice to Management

Did you forget you have a responsibility to shareholders?
Don't tell employees to report ethics violations if you're going to tell their managers and fail to protect them from retaliation. This makes you as guilty as the person who does it.

    Pros

Good salary and work location. Smart people willing to share knowledge. Great intern program. Good community participation and support for local events.

    Cons

Executive management is rigid and disrespectful of others leading to an environment of mistrust. Company is too lean to support current workload resulting in long work hours for all.
